Re: Downton Abbey

I'd be interested to hear what you think about the news series of Downton, I felt it had gone off the boil for this series, there are some good moments though and good characters.

Re: Merry Christmas!

It's amazing how much we have to explain to the kids when watching classic movies even when it's only National Lampoon's Christmas and Summer vacation (yes Joe has a liking for these) the technology, our childhood, God the fashions were awful. I had a lovely day yesterday, ironing and watching Seven...

Happy New Year everyone, may 2014 be better than 2013. Personally I'm glad to see the back of last year and looking forward to this one :D

Re: Gone With or Without fanfare

Peter O'Toole, Joan Fontaine and Audrey Totter, it's not been a good weekend for classic movie lovers, Joan Fontaine has always been a favourite, Peter O'Toole became a favourite and quite how he got to 81 is a miracle in itself and Audrey Totter I've only just got to know. RIP all of you.

Re: The Royals!

I love those pictures of the christening and the picture of the Queen with 3 monarchs in waiting. That is going to be one of the pictures of this century. Is it just me or does George look the spitting image of his father at the same age?

Napoleon sounds terrific Christine, I can just sense the atomosphere by looking at your photograph. How I would have loved to have been there. The 1913 silent sound like a treat too.

Re: To Dream of Dogs

I love Labradors, how gentle and determined he was with the little boy and how intuitive. It brought nice tears to my eyes. I admit to having my stomach in my mouth when Chris first let Lara off the lead and we had many times where she followed her own nose or more usually other dogs she wanted to r...

Re: Welcome to Kendra Bean, Our Guest Author on 10/18 & 10/21

Welcome Kendra, I'm so cheered that a new book on Vivien coming out, I already have Alexander Walker's, Hugo Vickers and my favourite the Angus McBean coffee table book. She's my favourite actress too and I would have loved to have watched her on stage but will have to content myself with her films....

Bleak House was masterful, it made me reappraise Gillian Anderson as an actress, she was wonderful.

Re: Kendra Bean, Vivien Leigh Author @ The SSO on 10/18 & 10/21

I just love Vivien, she is my favourite, right down to me wanting to give Libby Vivien as a middle name (unfortunately, Chris's uncle's mad 2nd wife also had that name and it would have upset his Grandma so it was scotched as an idea). I've always loved her, from first watching her as Scarlett, she'...

Re: George Raft

Hello, I'm back again on George's thread. Ill health took me away for too long but I've read your words about your own illnesses and I'm trying to go down that path. Actually, I'm doing my best to come to terms with my ill health, I don't think I have done before, even though I've had this illness f...
