Re: 2024 TCM Film Festival
Wasn't the Egyptian divvied up into small performance spaces? Is it all one theater again? The Egyptian was all one space. It just reopened a few months ago after being closed for a year (or maybe longer) for a renovation. The theater is gorgeous. We saw two movies there during the festival. Fantas...

Re: April 2024 Schedule Posted, Marlon Brando is SOTM
Two weeks from now they're also showing The Men , Brando's film debut, a movie they took some to confirm on the schedule, and one that TCM doesn't show that often. The Men is an interesting film. It's an excellent debut for Brando who plays a GI who is shot and paralyzed during the war. The film de...

Re: Solar Eclipse?
I live in Oregon, so unfortunately, we are only supposed to get a partial eclipse. I did see the total eclipse in 2017 which was pretty cool. The partial eclipse is supposed to start in about an hour or so at 10:30am (PST). I'll look out the window and see if I can see anything. Unfortunately, it is...

Re: 2024 TCM Film Festival
I am excited to announce that I WILL be attending the TCMFF after all. I didn't think I'd be able to do so this year, because we went all out last year, but I ended up receiving media credentials. I applied on a lark and submitted the article I wrote on my blog last year about attending the festival...

Re: April 2024 Schedule Posted, Marlon Brando is SOTM
Readers of my schedule summary may notice that on Thursdays in April there is a “Special Theme” that includes a variety of films, but has otherwise not been specified. Since April is also the 30th Anniversary of TCM, I am hoping that this Special Theme might include a tribute to the earlier days of...

Re: April 2024 Schedule Posted, Marlon Brando is SOTM
I'm not a big Marlon Brando fan, but it's cool that he's being honored for the first time. It's amazing he's never been picked before now. I'm excited about Ann Dvorak day on 4/2. I want to see more of her films. I've only seen a handful. I also like how TCM is honoring Gregory Peck, Spencer Tracy a...

Re: TCM & Ben's podcasts...
I listened to the first episode with Nancy Meyers and enjoyed it - YMMV, depending on your opinion of Ben’s interview style and the guest at hand for each episode. Some random comments: - Nancy Meyers had some fun and interesting stories about Jack Nicholson and working on scripts with Billy Wilder...

I listened to the Mel Brooks episode this morning. It was excellent and it's always fun to hear Mel's stories.

Re: February 2024 Schedule Posted, 31 Days of Oscar
WTH???????? Noir Alley is preempted and this boring series is allowed to continue during Oscar month????????????????? 31 Days of Oscar begins Feb. 9, so that the last day is the day the statuettes are handed out for real. The last episode of The Power of Film is the night before. Noir Alley is bein...

Re: February 2024 Schedule Posted, 31 Days of Oscar
Since Power of Film is on demand, I checked out the closing credits of the fourth part. 100 clips of film, and only 25 (a quarter!) were before 1970. Wow. You'd think if anything, including more films from the Golden Age era would better prove their point about why films endure. I saw clips from Wo...

Re: the 2023 Feinberg Awards
And, yes, I also unapologetically still love Aqua's "Barbie Girl" as much as I did (and maybe more) when I first heard it as a 12-year old. "Come on, Barbie, let's go party!" "Oh I'm having so much fun!" "Well Barbie, we're just getting started." "Oh, I ...

Re: the 2023 Feinberg Awards
I only saw 3 movies released in 2023, but I liked them all: BARBIE WONKA THE LITTLE MERMAID I loved BARBIE! I also saw PETER PAN & WENDY (and liked it), but I don't know if it had a theatrical release or was released only on Disney+. I want to see KILERS OF THE FLOWER MOON, but I know it will b...
