Re: AFI's 25 GREATEST MOVIE MUSICALS OF ALL TIME

I saw Taina Elg in Irma La Douce in Chicago when I was in JrHS. My first live show (a musical too!) & the whole cast was super. Scandalized my teachers though that my parents took me to such a show. Got to remember that this was back at the beginning of the '60s. 🤣

I liked Les Girls also.

I may be confused by 'capture computer.' ... It's sounds like you are computer savvy. I rarely use DVR, and like the video cassette, I record and then don't watch. Don't use On-Demand either. I use a computer to make (capture) digital copies of movies/shows that I can save and watch on my own equip...

Re: Banned for Trolling

I doan know about Nipkow. I hope he is well. I would see him post once in a while on TB's site, but just checked and he hasn't been on since March... Almost shocked me when I finally looked up a synopsis of Hot Spell during the TCM board's years that it actually did kind of sound interesting and wa...

My favorite with "Cuddles" would have to be "Christmas in Connecticut." Same here. I post at other places where I'm so much older. I'm lucky that I found a tractor forum where I fit in age-wise, so communication doesn't require a idiom translator. 😆 Some don't know what this is ...

Re: I Just Watched...

I guess I like schmaltz from time to time. Been eons since I saw Seven Sweethearts, but remember it as somewhat cute, but not a special film worth repeated viewings. Went to the Tulip Festival in Holland, MI when I was a kid, so that may be part of it. I mostly like Kathryn Grayson, but she's not my...

I agree about Hope in that movie. I was surprised at the level of his hoofing in the number with Cagney. Not bad, not bad at all.

IIRC, I read that she said Ada was her favorite of all her films.

Tiki, that's simply gorgeous. Love your use of shading and attention to detail. You're quite the talented lady. And here I was feeling elevated 'cause I moved junk around to create a mock up of the dining and kitchen areas in my house addition. 😅 Thanks for posting yours.

Re: AFI's 25 GREATEST MOVIE MUSICALS OF ALL TIME

The last four are hard to justify and Chicago is not a great musical. Fantasia , in my view, is the indispensable Disney musical. Aladdin, Pinocchio , even Alice in Wonderland are better choices than Beauty and the Beast . Concert movies deserve to be on the list ( Stop Making Sense, The Last Waltz...

The subject matter of THE GODFATHER holds no interest to me ... I suspect I will enjoy THE TAKING OF PELHAM 123 for a lot of reasons. I'm like you with no interest in the subject matter of The Godfather plus the only time I liked Brando was in On The Waterfront . I delayed seeing it for decades, bu...

Re: For Bronxgirl48: Mother's Day

The French Connection was the first movie that I remember seeing Hackman in. Hated it and went out of my way for many years to avoid Hackman films. Then saw Hoosiers and I was converted into being a fan who would watch anything that Hackman is in ... except the French duo which I still dislike.

Typo, should have been the Natalie Wood/Roz Russell one from 1962. Hated the Bette Midler one.

Tree services we contacted were not enthusiastic about removing the other three stumps. They were a variety of maple known for its particular hardness. Their size means that a larger than normal model of stump grinder would have to be rented and it would be very slow going even if the grinder had c...

Re: AFI's 25 GREATEST MOVIE MUSICALS OF ALL TIME

I was pleasantly surprised the first version of Show Boat made it, it is so much better than the 1951 version. Agree strongly even though I liked seeing it in color. -------- Personally, I'd yank The Wizard of Oz (1939), Cabaret (1972), Mary Poppins (1964), and definitely Moulin Rouge (2001). I kno...
