Re: OBITUARIES
Loved Dabney Coleman in everything I'd seen him in. Didn't really come into his own until his later years. I preferred him w/stache! Was Dabney his real name? Who would pick that for their stage name? Yes, that was his real name. I'll remember him most for 9 to 5 and Tootsie, but he was memorable w...

Fred Roos, longtime producer of the films of Francis Ford Coppola. Age 89. https://deadline.com/2024/05/fred-roos-dead-francis-ford-coppola-godfather-producer-1235925291/ His last credit is Coppola's new film Megalopolis, which appears to be a jinxed production given that Coppola's wife Eleanor died...

Highlights of the 70s list. Pared down a bit from the other thread's lists that I make to include only the ultimate highlights. Re: WHAT HAPPENED TO 40 GUNS???
Spielberg was introducing it over the wknd, than after a few minutes delay, Jewel Robbery started and was shown in its entirety (a previous selection in that series) WHAT is going on with TCM lately? This is the 2nd time in a couple wks this has happened. (something not on the schedule is shown). I...

Don't forget about the Bebe Daniels film that was incorrectly framed (the top was at the bottom of the screen). And supposedly there was a slip up when Black Narcissus was on too. Maybe they jinxed themselves with the promo saying "we do it right"

Re: MUSINGS, PONDERINGS, RUMINATIONS AND FANCIES
And Paul Newman's illustrious debut follows: The Silver Chalice! (or as I dub it, The Silver Phallus!) :D Oh, yes, the one that he took a big ad out in one of the trade papers to apologize for after it aired on TV after he became a big star. It's a more interesting film than Warners big Helen of Tr...

LAND OF THE PHAROAHS -- I guess every great director is entitled to make at least one bad picture in their career. "Bring the snake in a strong basket" "The gods of Egypt have spoken!" I still love the ending though. So deliciously ironic. William Faulkner worked on the script!

Restoration (1995) : Why did I even bother? what was especially weird was this came out at THE HEIGHT of MEG RYAN'S STARDOM and my sister wanted to see this SO BAD (she was a history major and loved the time period), but this was also the HEIGHT OF ANNOYING RELEASE HABITS BY "INDEPENDENT"...

THANK you KINGRAT and CINEMAINTERNATIONAL for your 1978 RUNDOWNS . Really though, in the years 1927-1999 , I would say there are obviously some INCREDIBLE YEARS like 1939 AND 40 AND 1962, some amazingly innovative years like 1971 or 1968 and some years with no great but lots of good films (1995 or ...

Restoration (1995) : Why did I even bother? This is one of those films that came from the now infamous Miramax stable and, presumably due to the Weinstein battering system, took the Oscars for Art Decoration and Costume Design. The costume Oscar is more or less deserved, but the sets often tend to b...

Re: AFI's 25 GREATEST MOVIE MUSICALS OF ALL TIME
I also was surprised that there were less than a handful of post-studio-era films on this list. While musical is my least favorite film genre, as you note, what I also call the essential films were on the list (i.e. my favorite musicals). A little light with regards to Fred and Ginger but that is b...
