Re: I Just Watched...

Leslie Halliwell, the author of the book "Halliwell's Film Guide" often spoils movies in his first sentence. For example, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962) starts with this summary, I will put it in spoiler so I won't do the same thing- A tenderfoot becomes a hero for shooting a bad...

Re: Banned for Trolling

I agree with the debate about emoji. I post in obits. I guess like is close to Thank You. It's sad news but I appreciate the acknowledgment. I don't know if I'm getting banned. I can't find some of my posts. Top-billed is a liberal. Funny how both extremes stop opposing viewpoints I tried to post i...

Re: I Just Watched...

They really are- it seems like RKO was a good place to cut one's teeth when it came to experimenting. the stories have a very modern sensibility to them. (heretofore, I've only known TOM CONWAY from THE SHE CREATURE near the end of his career and as the world's stupidest** therapist in CAT PEOPLE) ...

Re: I Just Watched...

I love the Falcon series. Even though they are b movies they are well made and written. Good casts. Re: MUSINGS, PONDERINGS, RUMINATIONS AND FANCIES

Supposedly the TCM hosts are reading from notes by TCM researchers (assuming they weren't eliminated in a past corporate shuffle). Could Stewart be so specifically an expert on silent films that she doesn't know that much about the sound era? (As for Ben Mankiewicz, if he knows anything other than ...

Re: OBITUARIES

Janis Paige is one of those performers who never had the career that they deserved. Her career in films never really took off for some reason. She did have Pajama Game on Broadway but it didn't really jumpstart her career beyond that, despite loads of talent. I agree with you and I believe a lot ha...

Re: OBITUARIES

My favorite role of hers is as the stage actress Deborah Vaughn, who goes on the make for David Niven's theater critic character (Larry McKay) in Please Don't Eat The Daisies , but only after slapping him first for a bad review. My favorite Janis Paige film is The Time, the Place and the Girl. Mart...

Re: Moon Over Miami

I saw the last half hour of Moon Over Miami , with the amazing butterfly dress that Betty Grable wears. I enjoy seeing the Fox Technicolor films, with the muted blues and reds, a distinctive style. My wife made a comment about the butterfly dress and that surprised me since she typically will comme...

Re: All In The Family- Started Off Great But Later Went Downhill

This series lasted for 9 years, the first 5 were great, it was hilarious, thought provoking and occasionally touching. If it had ended here, it would have been the greatest sitcom in TV history. Unfortunately, each season after this was worse than the last. These were the years when grandson Joey w...

Re: MUSINGS, PONDERINGS, RUMINATIONS AND FANCIES

Speaking of Perry Mason, we just saw The Case of the Provocative Protege, with noir gal Virginia Field in a prominent role. She was in a lot of Perry Masons. Yea, Field was featured often on Mason: "During the Perry Mason series on CBS from 1957–1966, Field made six guest appearances. She play...

Re: TCM Premieres....

Coming up on June 4 is The Velvet Touch , which is somewhat like All About Eve as a film noir. Rosalind Russell plays the famous actress. Theater life isn't always pleasant, and a murder ensues. Is The Velvet Touch a TCM premiere? It is an RKO film and thus was part of the former Turner library of ...

kingrat wrote: May 30th, 2024, 7:54 pm There's a fine scene fairly early in the film where Cochran and Roman, on the run, try to hide in a long trailer hauling several new cars. You may want to rewind this and watch again.
Yea, that is one first rate action scene that adds suspense to this couple on the run film.
