Re: Noir Alley
HANGOVER SQUARE is an old favorite of mine. An excellent period melodrama-thriller but in my opinion it does not qualify as noir (and I have an expansive interpretation of this genre that goes beyond the hard-boiled detectives and dames scenario) For me, George Harvey Bone's obsession with Netta Lo...

Re: Sue Sue's TCM Film Festival Tidbit Travel Blog
Haha! Only time will tell, EP. I always drop by Larry Edmunds at least twice during the festival. Jeff or Sean can always find what I’m looking for if it’s not in the shop. I visit the Larry Edmunds shop at least once a year (I'm 60 miles south of it). Must see for studio-era movie fans. Most of th...

Re: Noir Alley
Did anyone watch HANGOVER SQUARE? It was pretty good. It reminded me of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Also, I've read in recent posts Ms. Wonderly is now here but I haven't seen any posts from her as yet. I watched Hangover Square, both last night and that on-fire ending this morning. Very good film. Gr...

Re: MUSINGS, PONDERINGS, RUMINATIONS AND FANCIES
This is not up to the standards of a musing, etc. It's more of a shoulder shrug or maybe a hmmm. I've been watching reruns of Match Game with Gene Rayburn recently. Every once in a while during the Super Match ($100, $250, $500) the name of a classic Hollywood star is given as an answer, sometimes ...

There's also the 1958 Robert Mitchum film, Thunder Road , about a bunch of southern moonshiners evading the revenuers... Yeah, there are older examples, like Lil Abner or Tobacco Road and even silents like Sparrows . By the way, another name for them that I forgot is "Hicksploitation" or ...

Re: What are you listening to?
My first record, my dad bought one of those portable record players for my birthday, was Light My Fire, it formed me, made me, I still love the way he sings. He grabs ya, man, and takes ya with him. When I was around 14 or so, us young guys invited some some girls over to listen to music and dance....

...Did the host have anything interesting to add in the intro/outro? Lawrence, the points Eddie offered up in his wraparounds were of director Andrew L. Stone and his wife Virginia's career of working together to make this film and a few others over the years and that they preferred to work on loca...

Re: Noir Alley
I'm confused. It appears there are five or six Noir Alley threads on this site. Can the moderators combined them? I'm looking for posts about last night's (1/28) showing which will be aired again at 10:00 this morning. Can someone tell me which of these threads is current? Thanks Use the unread-pos...

Re: The 1960s
For me, that would probably be Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf . I hate every character in the movie. I would question one's sanity if they didn't hate all 4 of the main characters in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, but I don't dislike the film. I do find the film to be one that doesn't need repeat ...

Re: most under-rated westerns of the 1950s
Shane and The Searchers would be top 10. Probably The Big Country as well. High Noon might just miss. And I'm not a big fan of the popular Rio Bravo....it's good but might not make even a top 20 of the 50s for me. I agree Shane, The Searchers, The Big Country and High Noon are 10 ten 50s westerns, ...

Re: Marion Davies on TCM
Why aren't there any Marion movies next Tues.??? Is there a rule a SOTM can't have 5 nights in a month??? There is no such rule. What other films are being shown that day, especially in from 5 - 10 EST? I ask because sometimes TCM will have a birthday or death tribute and that is why only 4 nights ...

Re: most under-rated westerns of the 1950s
A top 10 leaving out the obvious (Shane, The Searchers etc) No Name on the Bullet Ride Lonesome The Tin Star The Man from Laramie 7 Men from Now The Naked Spur Jubal Vera Cruz They Came to Cordura The Bravados A top-10 of the under-rated or just a top-10 50s westerns, period? I ask because I don't ...
