Re: Noir Alley on TCM
“It’s strange that a man can live with a woman for ten years and not know the first thing about her.” — dialogue from The Letter which aired before Decoy. Decoy — Portugal had a certain swagger, and he threw part of his unfinished hard boiled egg on the table and even though the film is in black an...

Re: Marion Davies on TCM
Hi all. I've migrated from TCM and haven't posted on this board in quite a while. Anyway, here's some news. Marion Davies is finally Star of the Month on TCM in January and will air three of my Kickstarter projects: BEAUTY'S WORTH, THE BRIDE'S PLAY, and LITTLE OLD NEW YORK as well as two of Ben Mod...

Re: Noir Alley on TCM
This is the thread, El CID, to post on after the movie? Users at this forum need to make this THE thread to post related to Noir Alley on TCM. So to answer your question; lets make this happen. Decoy, from poverty row studio, Monogram (1946) has it moments but also flaws. Running at 76 minutes it i...

Re: Hello Everyone
Hallelujah! That was one forum on there that deserved to be wiped out. Agreed. Must have been hard on old Spammy seeing all those Twitter threads gone in the blink of an eye. :D Yea, looks like the paid-for-spammers at old TCM website need to find another avenue for revenue. Hopefully they can be b...

Re: See Jayne Act: The Burglar (1957)
I couldn't find the Cagney playing guitar photo I used at the TCM site so I used this photo of Martha Vickers since she is in The Burglar. James , Check it out! Cagney on Guitar As you can now see, I'm back! Thanks for the link. Lot of Cagney photos playing guitar that I hadn't seen. (e.g. some wit...

Re: JOAN BENNETT FOR SOTM THIS CENTURY
It would be funny joke on Hibi if TCM was to schedule Joan Bennett as STOM "soon", after all those years of trying (with my help!), at the TCM forum and being ignored by the TCM programmers. But however it happens would be A-OK with us!

Re: See Jayne Act: The Burglar (1957)
James, I don't want this to come off wrong, but you've got great legs! Glad I'm not the only one who noticed. One of us -- either jamesjazzguitar or I -- must undergo psychoanalysis. But until then . . . What are you doing Saturday night, james? I couldn't find the Cagney playing guitar photo I use...

Re: See Jayne Act: The Burglar (1957)
I believe in David Goodis. He is the king of noir fiction, say what you want about Cornell Woolrich, Jim Thompson, and Patricia Highsmith, fine writers indeed, but Goodis has dialogue that’s said without sound. How noir is that? Goodis was one of the best at noir theme fiction. The Burglar is a goo...

Re: Destry Rides Again!
I view this film as more of a rom-com set in the west, than a "true" western. Pre-WWII Jimmy Stewart was a good fit for this role, but I still favor his more gritty screen persona after he returned from WWII.

Re: See Jayne Act: The Burglar (1957)
Big fan of The Burglar; Duryea's best performance as the lead in a film. It was great to see Big Sleep actor Martha Vickers in the film. Her two main scenes (in the diner and back in her apartment), with Duryea are classic noir. I love when she slaps Dan.

Re: Film Noir Review: I Walk Alone (1947)
I Walk Alone has the solid noir theme of the new school of crime (using accountants and lawyers instead of thugs) with Douglas as the leaders and just out of prison Lancaster as the old-school type of criminal. The issue I have is the ending were Douglas goes all old-school. This change just wasn't ...

Re: Hello Everyone
Fwiw on the TCM account if James went to the profile page he could have added the Z. You can change your screen name over there. A recent update of the board software put usernames into capital letters. He had had to delete one 'z' from his name so that it would fit on one line. I had wondered why ...
