Re: It Happened on 5th Avenue

This is a great Christmas movie. It has a fine cast, and is very funny. I like the scene in which Mary is cooking Slumgullion for Mike.

"Please beat me. Then maybe you feel much better. Soon we make up. Much love. Many bangles."
I agree completely.

Thanks, James!

Re: Favorite Type of Documentary

I like documentaries that examine a bygone era. For example, an excellent one I recently saw was Automat, about the Horn and Hardart restaurant chain. I also like ones that illuminate, without being bombastic. The one that comes to mind is Lo and Behold: Reveries of the Connected World, by Werner He...

Re: Italian Neo Realistic Films

L'Eclisse, like Antonioni's previous two films, explores the emptiness of modern life. The deliberate pacing can by trying. I liked L'Avventura and La Notte more.

White Cargo (1942)

White Cargo (1942) It’s hard to believe such a tawdry, and campy movie came out of the glamour house that was MGM. But I’m glad it did. Hedy Lamarr’s previous films with the studio were rather bland. Hedy was presented as a porcelain goddess, to be admired the same way one admires a statue. Don’t ge...

Re: North by Northwest -- Spy Thriller

North by Northwest is perhaps the most fun Hitchcock film, as well as the most fashionable. I loved the hotel lobby and dining room, and that train was wonderful.
