Re: Is this a HOAX - or what ?!!!
:D Actually, it is no doubt a frustrated Silent film fan from our own not to distant future. Sneaking back into the time stream on a possible suicide mission to confiscate a pristine print of Lubitsch THE PATRIOT, Wellman's LEGION of THE CONDEMNED, Chaney's THE BIG CITY, or maybe Murnau's FOUR DEVIL...

Re: More Lost Silent Films Discovered In Russia!
Christine,
Well hopefully THE SPANISH DANCER is a much better film than BELLA DONNA? It is currently undergoing a full restoration. It's interesting that both THE SPANISH DANCER and Pickford's/Lubitsch ROSITA were based on the same novel.

Re: More Lost Silent Films Discovered In Russia!
Ed, April, :D Yeah, I transplanted the list. Thanks. Had a bad headache last night. Didn't fill like putting my own spin on things. It doesn't say anything about Valentino, but it would be nice if THE SAINTED DEVIL turned out to be in there. HONOR FIRST is high on my wish list as it is the first fil...

More Lost Silent Films Discovered In Russia!
:D I must say that 2010 has turned out to be a rather remarkable year in Film Preservation. Another stash of forgotten American Silent films has turned on up in Russia. These are being shipped back to the United States. This on top of the large collection of films that the were discovered in Argent...

Re: Welcome to Gen McGillicuddy from TCM in October
Dear Ms. McGillicuddy, :D Thank you so much for addressing my earlier post. It was so nice to finally see the restored Betty Hutton movie INCENDIARY BLONDE (1945) on TCM tonight. I know that Chuck had been working to obtain the rights for a couple years. Beautiful print of this unjustly forgotten cl...

Re: Welcome to Gen McGillicuddy from TCM in October
:D Welcome and thank you very much for gracing us with your presence here on the Oasis! Congratulations, on the success of the festival, and continued well wishes. I'm sure that it is a monumental undertaking organizing such a large event and you are to be highly commended for all your wonderful ach...

Re: Lubitsch Silents
Christine, :D Great reviews. THREE WOMEN, and FORBIDDEN PARADISE are two films I have longed to see. The former was recently restored and screened at a Festival in L. A. earlier this year. Being a Warner Brothers Silent, I hoped that TCM would have the film scored. The latter may exist in another, a...

Re: Josef von Sternberg's Silent Trilogy on DVD
:D Latest From Robert Israel concerning his scoring of THE DOCKS OF NEW YORK: Generally speaking, there is little written material (or discussion) about the method which contemporary composers use to score pre-1929 classic films. And, as there may be a small group of people who have some interest in...

Re: WHAT SILENTS & PRE-CODES HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
:) OK. It took all evening, but I have successfully revised the John Gilbert Slide-show. Adding about an additional 10 or 12 new photos, and I was able to adjust the cadence and duration at last.. Trouble is I struggled to match the music up now to the stills in the way I had wanted. I'm not complet...

Re: WHAT SILENTS & PRE-CODES HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
Fernando, :) Sorry I have been away for so long. Where did you land a copy of A KISS FOR CINDERELLA? I agree this is a wonderful picture. Have you seen Betty Bronson in ARE PARENTS PEOPLE? with Adolphe Mejou and Florence Vidor. Oh, I love that movie! Here is a taste of THE MERRY WIDOW (1925) with a ...

Re: WHAT SILENTS & PRE-CODES HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
:D This is my first attempt ever at making up a slide-show. Really just a rough draft at best. Featured are many of my colorized photos of Clara Bow. I probably have close to 50 or 60 others which I did not use in this presentation. I'm still learning how to add openings, and titles. Hopefully, I wi...

Re: WHAT SILENTS & PRE-CODES HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
Ed, You still saw ARE PARENTS PEOPLE? with the Piano score from the old Grapevine VHS I think? Not the later Grapevine compiled score from the DVD-R release. And not my own compiled score because I didn't have that even burned until last week. The film was originally 7 Reels, but only the 5 reel Kod...

Re: WHAT SILENTS & PRE-CODES HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
:) I'm happy to see someone commenting on A THROW OF THE DICE. I've had the DVD for about a year, and personally think this is a fine film. The score has been praised on other boards, but I couldn't get into allot of it. There were portions that I liked. The near perfect Nitrate print was discovered...
