Re: What are you reading?

I think what I like about Marion is her wonderful sense of humor and fun. And the fact that she was such a charitable and giving person too. From what I've read of her and seen of her films, I don't know how anyone could not like her. I'd love to see more of her films available. She was the precurso...

Re: Will Rogers

Alison,

Roy Rogers was a separate Western star. He and his wife had their own television show back in the fifties. All the little boys tried to emulate him. HIs horse "Trigger" was quite famous too. He was very well known here in the States.

Re: Comfort foods

Any thing hot in cold weather is great! Right now I'm enjoying a large mug of freshly ground strong coffee that my brother in England sent me as part of my Christmas gift. :)

Re: The whiny thread

Oh, Brenda, your post gave me chills as I read it..Thank the Lord you are ok. No "aftershocks"? I'm sure you are bruised and sore. Years ago I was in a VW bug, lost control on a curve ON THE FREEWAY and spun around 2 times....when I finally stopped shaking, I realized I hadn't hit anythin...

Re: The whiny thread

Well, I totaled my car the day after Christmas. Really lame accident on my part, but the good news is that I wasn't hurt even though the air bags didn't deploy! It was a one car accident so that was fortunate too. I actually drove the car home after suffering a nervous breakdown! I hit some m...

Re: FRANK BORZAGE

Wonderful reviews Alison. How much effort you've put in them. Amazing. Borzage is one of my favorite directors and " Lucky Star " was a big discovery for me. Such an excellent film! I think that arguably it could be hailed as Farrell's and Gaynor's finest film together. Once again, we agr...

Re: FRANK BORZAGE

I think one reason Frank was so good at romantic films is that it was what he wanted in his life. He really believed that love overcame all. Nice review Alison!

Re: Talmadges on DVD

Here's a short synopsis of the mystery movie in Norma's set, Within the Law. Sounds like just the spunky sort of role Norma shone in! I didn't recognize any of the other players in the film on the IMDb though. "When Mary Turner is sent to prison for a crime she did not commit, she vows upon her...

Re: Talmadges on DVD

Can we look forward to hearing of a boxset of Norma's films? From what I've been able to find out, we are quite lucky to get these, and Kino is taking a risk with them. At least Norma has two films on this boxset, Kiki and Within the Law , which have never been released to legtimate DVD before. The...

Re: What are you reading?

Speaking of Borzage, this dual bio of his star making couple Gaynor and Farrell just came out. The author is from Dallas and wrote and produced the Olive Thomas collection a few years ago. Sounds like a good read!

Re: MURNAU, BORZAGE AND FORD AT FOX

I found Seventh Heaven on Ebay last night, and ordered it. I'm sure it is not the best copy in the world, but at least it will get me started. Charles Farrell is familiar to me, but in an odd kind of way. I only know him as the put upon, exasperated father of Gale Storm in the 50's tv sit-com of My...

She's lovely! She wrote some very significant pop classics with her ex husband Gerry Goffin back in the day.... Thanks for adding.
