Re: Carnal Knowledge (1971)

I haven't seen this in such a long time, but I do remember liking it way back then. :)

Talmadges on DVD

Unbelievably fantastic news! Kudos to Kino for this! It will make a nice birthday gift to myself! Ronald Colman and the Talmadge sisters in March! No bonus features, but this is a risk for them, and the price is reasonable. If the sales are good, it will encourage them to take more risks. There is a...

Re: The Bitter Tea of General Yen (1933)

You make an interesting point, silentscreen. Could you please share more of your knowledge of Nils Asther ? Prior to seeing him as General Yen, I only knew him from his Garbo movies and prosaic (but enjoyable) movies such as Dr. Kildare's Wedding Day and Son of Lassie . I'd read that he eventually ...

Re: WHAT SILENTS & PRE-CODES HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

I finally got to see Tess of the Storm Country , which I've wanted to see for years based on the reviews I've read. I was not disappointed-it is now my favorite Pickford film along with Daddy Long Legs . Mary's natural charm before the camera was a real love affair between actress and media, and you...

Re: The Bitter Tea of General Yen (1933)

I like it as well, though I haven't watched it in ages. I thought Nils Asther was really good in this unusual role. It's a shame he broke his contract and was black balled out of Hollywood.

Re: The whiny thread

Birdy, what wonderful news! I had a very good feeling that the surgery would go well after praying for your father and the surgeon. God does answer prayer! Good to see you around here again! :)

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

That could be a whole other thread. Actually, it was! Lots of people weighed in, some thought Warren Beatty, others, me included, thought it was Mick Jagger. Moira, if you're reading this, do you remember where the thread was??? I always thought if it was Mick she had a lot of nerve since he sang b...

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

By the way, one of my friends in school used to change the words to that song to 'He's got Warren Beatty thighs.' Truly. B LOL!That's cute! He was in Carly Simon's song, "You're so Vain" too, no? At least that was one of the guesses as to whom the song was about. That could be a whole oth...

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

Alison, Bette always makes me smile-she just shone in these women's pictures. Sometimes I want to dislike her when she's playing a really nasty character, but I've seen so many interviews with her, and I know she was just trying to be the best. Actually in this one I think the shaking scene with Mir...

Re: WHAT SILENTS & PRE-CODES HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

I watched my first Ford silent The Hangman's House (is that Victor Maclaglen said hubby quite proud he'd recognised him). I was very impressed, I thought it had lots of atomosphere and the story built up very well. I saw shades of The Quiet Man in there, the fond look at Ireland in the beginning of...

Re: The whiny thread

I guess I'm blue and distracted. My baby would have been due around now, it seems a long time ago and a distant memory but I can't concentrate on anything. I haven't got the Xmas feeling yet. Alison, I've been thinking of you. My neice just had a little boy born 2 1/2 weeks early on Nov.7 named Par...

He has been such a blessing in my life and makes me feel so special! My only regret is that I didn't start searching for him sooner. This has been like an "Oprah" show-trust me! :D That sounds like a very intri g uin g story . . why not compose a thread around it, right here in General Ch...
