So tell me -- if Gov. Palin is such a devout and fundamental Christian, how come she's so proud of her unwed, pregnant daughter. How come 17-year-old Bristol ("Bristol???") isn't labeled a sinner and condemned to Everlasting Hell? Even if said tongue-in-cheek, that was brutal. Even if you...

Anne, I did vote against Bush four times, twice for Governor, and twice for President. I knew he was awful, but as you stated in an earlier post, personality and looks do seem to matter to most Americans. I guess people just like to have someone in charge that is dumber than themselves? But after ba...

You're definitely not thick, Chris. I'm just incredibly thin -skinned after listening to all the garbage of the last eighteen months. For better or worse, I will be glad when it's over.

Chris, you didn't quite get my point. I don't think any party (including the crazy Greens and the gun-loving, drugs-for-everyone Libertarians) offers anything even resembling ethics, common sense, or compassion. They may say they do, trying to be everything to everyone, but their legislation shows o...

Anne, I live in Texas, so a vote for anyone not affiliated with the Republican party is wasted, from sheriff to DA to mayor to governor to president. I'm middle of the road on most issues, but far left on some, and even far right on a few. About the only politicians here that come close to represent...

...but since when has one opinion against the masses ever made any difference? Or one vote. I quit voting after 2004, Bryce, and have no intention of ever returning to the booth. While I'm not an autarchist, I'm an idealist that believes government should be run by honest people. I can't find any, ...

People believe what they want to believe. Get some "experts" to come up with the most "haunted" location, put me there with no lights for a week, and I'll come out unscathed and unbelieving. Same reason I don't bother watching horror flicks, my imagination just doesn't lean that ...

Speaking of condensing, after ten years of avoiding it, I finally starting watching my beloved Seinfeld reruns on TBS. I don't notice any scenes or credits cut, but it looks like they remove individual frames to speed up the action. Or my vision is getting really blurry.

Well put, Anne. I am drawn to character actors. After seeing my favorite films countless times, I begin looking at all of the other actor's performances. One of these days, I'll be able to recite everyone's lines. And in movies with stars that I either dislike or are indifferent to, the character ac...

I already enjoyed the Charlie Chaplin day, finally getting to see The Kid . And I saw a little of Marie Dressler this afternoon. Really looking forward to Peter Lorre and Edward G. Robinson too. And I'm thrilled to death that Elvis Presley is not on this year's schedule. Much more interesting than p...

I'm reminded of my all-time favorite yard art. Back in the 1970's, an old woman in an enormous house on a main thoroughfare had all kinds of unusual planters in her front yard, but what I remember most was an assortment of old toilets with flowering vines hanging over the edges. Everyone else was ap...

Wow! Does Antiques Roadshow ever visit Canada? My eldest brother had an early hand-signed photo of the Beatles, but I have no idea where it went when he died.

I think I'd like your yard, Carol. I have some ancient tractor wheels and an old pump in mine, a gift from an aunt's farm. When I'm driving through the country, my eyes are always glued to the side of the road looking for old machinery and wheelbarrows. I have yet to stop and ask if I can have any o...
