Re: GARBO!

Well, I did wink!! Now, as for Conquest, it was a MAGNIFICENT defeat! Garbo kept hitting highs and lows with the public, but she was usually not concerned. Queen Christina wasn't as popular as expected but for many (Hitler and others) it was and is their favorite film. She followed that with the Pai...

Re: The Women's Room

Oh, my head spins when I think of what might have been for Garbo. But, on the other hand, I am so thankful she STOPPED when she did. It suited her perfectly. That way we all can speculate, dream, and treasure what she did do. I have to admit I thought Two-Faced Woman a disaster. It should never have...

Re: The Women's Room

That is a great photoshop of Garbo and Mason. In 1949, Garbo came out of retirement to do a screen test for La Duchesse de Langeais, a project produced by Walter Wanger and co-starring James Mason. The funding fell through, and it never happened. The failed film's director, Max Ophuls, said, "A...

Re: Films that made you cry

Last night I watched Marie Antoinette for the umpteenth time. Norma was MARVELOUS! The whole time I tried to picture another actress in the part; I couldn’t. Not even my precious Garbo could have done justice to Antoinette like Norma. I just had to come on and sing the praises of Norma Shearer. When...

Interesting about Marilyn, Gloria, and Bette. I have heard that about some stars before, but I never met one, so I wouldn't know. Now, as for Garbo, EVERYONE made fun of her feet. But, I really don’t think it bothered her much. There was one story of a director who made a derogatory remark about her...

Well, Glenda is undoubtedly the fairest of them all. She reminds me of the happy California cows commercial, "Work out?" Here we have the lovely and talented Lizabeth Scott. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l315/garbomaniac/lizabeth.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l315/garbomaniac/7...

Hi CCF. Yes, I have Mark Vieira's book. I bought two copies the minute I knew it was available. I read the book cover to cover twice. I keep it in my restroom, for when I rest! That is about the only time I can enjoy reading. The rest of the day is usually "a house a fire!" That is one of ...

You are correct, Sir! But, the funny thing is her foot size was 7 1/2; however, I suppose compared with Jean Harlow's size 4 foot, hers was huge, back then.

Here is another one with Cary Grant.

stuart, I think maybe it was the times. You have to remember that although women have had a steady progression, it has only been in the last ten fifteen years we have appreciated age. Lauren Hutton, the model, was the first to dare to be old and fabulous. Others followed in various fields. Now, we d...

Yes, moria, I have it. I taped it off of some channel, probably TCM. I have everything Garbo I can lay my hands on. I even obtained, at great expense, the original 1932 Vanity Fair magazine with with Covarrubias' caricature of Greta on the cover. I saw it years ago and eventually found it and BOUGHT...

Yes, I agree; Glibert Roland was quite the movie star, and moira's photos of him through time are very compelling. I just recently saw Our Betters for the first time with Gilbert Roland and Constance Bennett. In the film, they had a scandalous affair. I had no idea it was art imitating life.
