I don't get the appeal of reality shows. And they are everywhere! Practically every channel has some sort of reality thing going. The only one i can see the point of is "The Biggest Loser." My daughter, though it saddens me to say it, loves this show and I wnadered into her room the othe d...

A friend recommended the Dark Tower books to me and I finished the first one and tossed it aside. I had the same problem with it that I always have with Stephen King--gratuitous nastiness. For example--the kid that the gunslinger meets. Who saves his life. I liked the relationship they have. It made...

I don't watch a lot of TV on a regular basis, but I love "The Gilmore Girls," and I'm sad that it is finished. (Though it will always live on in syndication, I suppose and on DVD) The writing is what makes the show (except for the season Rory cut loose and lost her mind). The dialogue is s...

[quote="jondaris"]This is embarrassing to admit, but I read nearly all the Nancy Drew books that were available in the 30s and 40s. My mom had them all from her youth, and when I was a kid I was an incredibly voracious reader to the point where it was simply impossible to keep me in materi...

I've never seen that particular video, but I love those "That's Entertainment" specials, especially the first one. Seeignn those as a kid was probably my first exposure to classic movies.

I'd have to say "Red-Headed Woman" because I prefer comedies. I LOVE the ending--you think she's down and out, but she takes that check and the chauffeur and conquers Paris! (BTW, was that Charles Boyer as the chauffeur?)

Though I have to list both in my top 10 pre-codes.

I bought copies of "Hoopla" and "Call Her Savage" from somebody on ebay. I can't wait to watch them , especially after reading the comments!

About the only movies I've gone to in the past year and haven't shrugged off are "The Queen" (which was wonderfully reviewed by moirafinnie), "Over the Hedge' (predictable and over the top, but a funny, ironic indictment of agressive suburbia), "The Illusionist" (nifty who-d...

I have guilty pleasures in music too: Marlene Dietrich, Patsy Cline, "It's my Party" and "These Boots Were Made For Walkin'" those silly songs that Ktel got together in the 70's and marketed as "Goofy Greats" and Dumb Ditties" (all those Ray Steven's classics!) and...

Oh boy, guilty pleasures. I love those spy/thrillers (books too) like the adaptations of Tom Clancy novels. And when they stick a little humor and sci-fi in, like the Men in Black movies, I'm thoroughly hooked. I also liked the first Jurassic Park movie. Funny lines, good action, classic moments (th...

I haven't seen this movie, but I'd like to, for just that reason--Gable was strong enough and manly enough that he wouldn't have seemed like a little boy next to her. I'd also like to see "As You Desire Me." Unfortunately neither is on the Garbo DVD set. Are either of these in the TCM libr...

I liked her in "The Women" too. She wasn't weak at all, except in the end when she took the loser back.

I liked her with Robt Montgomery in "Private Lives," too. Thought her voice was a little too shrill in "The Divorcee"--kind of grated on me.
