Re: 'Round the World Weather Report

Thanks for the tip from another curly girl...it couldn't hurt!
103 here today, dry, and no letup in sight.
Fireworks cancelled all around here as well as in 20 other states!

We had a wonderful meal and good time with family, I hope the rest of you had a great 4th and are staying as cool as possible.

Re: The whiny thread

Hi, friends. Sorry to be away so long, I'm looking for an old thread we had about recommended DVD recorders. Here is my huge WHINE....now I am not only without TCM, I am now without a DVD player. They both died. I can still watch movies in the laptop but don't care to. I will probably replace the ch...

Re: 'Round the World Weather Report

The is the first time I remember that it is 80 degrees here the week before the mass exodus from Illinois and Indiana to Florida to escape the end of winter!?!? Confusing, but lovely. Daffodils and even a couple of tulips and all the flowering trees are out.

Re: The History of Hugo Cabret /George Melies

Well, what do you know? Apparently Martin Scorsese had the same opinion I did and his movie adaption of this book as Hugo took home quite a few of the statues on the big night. Once again, I recommend the book.

Re: WHAT SILENTS & PRE-CODES HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

I also watched a James Cagney recently: Blonde Crazy , 1931. Jimmy played a slick-talking shyster who was eventually redeemed in character, if not in situation. He partners with Joan Blondell, turns her to the dark side and refuses to admit he's in love with her. They are joined by Louis Calher, Ray...

Re: 'Round the World Weather Report

I wanted to pop back in and say hello, after having been off for so long, what better place than the weather thread? I usually look to Nancy to tell me what's headed my way. Sure enough, it is wind. And more wind. Whistling through my upstairs like a herd of ghosts minus the chains. (I will NOT be w...

Re: 'Round the World Weather Report

I feel for you, Fossy. Just a miserable week here in S Central IL. Ok, all over the midwest. A bone-chilling, gusting rain and north wind makes a girl want to just play hooky and watch a Joan Blondell movie with her cat! We had such a beautiful couple of weeks of near perfect 80 degrees, I wish you ...

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

Chris, When you watch Make Way for Tomorrow just have your box of tissues ready. I can't really say I liked it, but the acting was superb, the scenes were beautiful and I can't stop thinking about it. I guess that makes it a pretty good film no matter how I'm feeling or if I ever intend to watch it ...

Re: 'Round the World Weather Report

Our east-coast friends may already be out of touch...but am sending up the most heartfelt wishes and prayers for their comfort and safety. I think the whole nation will be on pins and needles tomorrow with worry. We'll hope for more worry than troubles...

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

Just watched Make Way for Tomorrow 1937, with Victor Moore and Beulah Bondi. This movie was described by Orson Welles as "the saddest movie ever made. It could make a stone cry." Have we discussed this movie before?

Re: Joan Blondell faves - tape wore out!

Joan Blondell day! Wow! I'm so excited, I can't stand it. I'm going to a friend's to watch one move (she has TCM but no recorder, I have a recorder but no TCM!) What snacks do you think are appropriate for Joan? I'll pm you my list...and probably send it on regular email as well! You are too sweet. B

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

Re: Harry Potter 40s cast OK, I'm up with you now!! I should have looked back a little,l just referenced by your avatar! No way Elizabeth Taylor for Hermione. Liz was too perfect at 12, Hermione is a little geeky. I would go with my other cat's namesake, Margaret O'Brien. Another great choice, frizz...

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

I saw Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Bk 7 part 2 It was a very satisfying movie for lovers of the books and a great ending to a series. My nephew and I have seen all of the movies together. We saw 7 part 1 in November and it was snowing when we went in, yesterday when we went in the temp was 9...
