Re: George Raft

Yowww - Yes, I've seen this before, but it sure is painful to watch - in more ways than one! I've got to give Jack credit though, for going through with this. BTW, MIDNIGHT MARY is posted in parts on Youtube - check it out, and look for the part where Loretta whispers nasties into Ricardo's ear, and...

Re: George Raft

Hey Maven - I'm talking about "personally appealing" not, who had the better film career :) I'd go for Ricardo Cortez (Jacob Krantz) first as to me he can have an appearance of sophistication on top of that smoldering sex appeal, and then Jack La Rue (those lips, those eyes), who can be en...

Re: George Raft

He reminds me of Ricardo Cortez...and Jack LaRue. Yes, George caught my fancy once too (and he can dance!) but I would rank him behind both Ricardo and Jack these days. Now, the story I want to hear the scoop about, and maybe WesternGuy can elaborate, is Jack La Rue was originally cast to play the ...

Re: Welcome to John Bengtson- April 24th-28th

Hi John - Firstly, I wanted to say your blog postings about the locations in THE ARTIST (which I found on another message board) really added to my enjoyment of that film! I had viewed the film once, and had only recognized the Cicada Club from photo's posted on their web site (hope to visit there s...

Re: This week on SVENGOOLIE...

Weird - I tuned in Svengoolie on METV in the SF Bay area, and the lead in commercial was for DRACULA, but the movie they played was THE OFFERING. The local program schedule had DRACULA listed, so not sure what the deal was.I turned off the channel. REDRIVER - are you on the East Coast? Maybe THE OFF...

Re: A Doris Day Festival on TCM

I'd like to thank Moira and everyone else who recommended I'll See You in My Dreams , which I would otherwise have overlooked. Patrice Wymore , best known for marrying Errol Flynn, plays a Broadway diva who looks and acts like a cross between Lauren Bacall and a deranged whippet. But don't they all...

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

Wendy, I don't like giving away too much when I write about a film...spoils the fun. You'll love Mrs. Henderson, one of the production companies is the BBC. I hope this isn't giving anything away, but as film buffs we should all get extra enjoyment out of viewing MRS. HENDERSON PRESENTS as it is a ...

Includes a back to back double bill of rare silents with GEORGE O'BRIEN (can't have too much of George..) on May 2nd and 3rd. I...

Re: Coming Up on TCM

Kingme should be very happy Saturday night, with TCM honoring Rita Hayworth. Gilda and The Lady from Shanghai are classics, and Fire Down Below isn't bad. But what do our Rita experts think about The Happy Thieves, The Lady in Question , and Affair in Trinidad , none of which I've seen? Affair in T...

Re: The Google Art Project

How cool - I've never heard of this before - thanks for posting! I'll need to play around with the navigation a bit - wondering if you can just browse collections? I got it to search for Artist name; Good - found Thomas Moran, one of my favorite painters; Bad - only 7 works shown. I'll need to check...
