Re: Two Seconds

Brilliantly overwrought is right, Moira. Can you imagine Gary Cooper or Cary Grant so out of control, and NOT looking ridiculous? Robinson commits to it. He knows where he's going, and knows it won't be easy. I, myself, do some amateur acting. I couldn't pull this off in a million years. My video is...

Two Seconds

I never heard of this fine pre-code crime drama until recently. I ran right to the library, and had them order it for me! Young (and brilliant) Edward G. Robinson is strapped to the electric chair and the switch is pulled. In the (you guessed it) two seconds it takes him to perish, his life passes b...

Re: The Searchers

THE SEARCHERS is one of my favorite movies, but I do agree with your assessment, Richard W. The good parts are SO good, and the not so good parts are OK. For that reason, I praise it as a great and complex work. But the moments of silliness do make me feel as if Larry and Curly have stumbled onto th...

Re: Gone With or Without fanfare

He was proud to be an Okie from Muskogee. No one could raise him right, but Mama Tried. Country music died this week, with the passing of lonesome wailer, Merle Haggard. Haggard and his peers of the 1960s and 70s were the last to collectively offer the moaning, back porch style of "pure" c...

Re: What recent films have you seen?

I am now officially out of touch with modern movies. I didn't know Affleck was playing Batman until about two days ago. Guess I'm getting old. I just don't care.

Re: What recent films have you seen?

I'd like to see TRUMBO. I watched a documentary on the writer a few years ago. That was quite interesting.

Re: The whiny thread

Best wishes, PT! I've had two root canals, and experienced VERY little pain. The doctor said I might want to eat a lot of ice cream. I said, "Why should today be any different?"

Re: FredCDobbs

I couldn't be sorrier to hear this. I enjoyed posting with FCD, and found him interesting, knowledgeable and respectful. Most of the time! I think Fred would be the first to admit he could be a bit cantankerous. But if that's the worst you can say about a man, he's led a pretty good life!

Re: Gone With or Without fanfare

To tell the truth, I was not aware of the unfounded death rumor years ago. Must have missed that!

Re: Gone With or Without fanfare

It says a lot that I was affected by the death of this artist. I'm not an avid music person. Don't follow rock, and never have. But everything I've heard by this man, I liked a lot. It's like that with the great ones. It doesn't matter what they do when they do it so beautifully.

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

That is a cute little movie. I don't think I've ever seen a ridiculously non-factual western bio pic I didn't like! Consider DeMille's THE PLAINSMAN!

Re: What recent films have you seen?

Is ROOM based on the book from a couple of years ago? Woman and her child held captive for long time? If so, I liked the book. Not sure how well it would translate to film.

Re: Westerns

That doesn't sound too promising. I like Gable's LONE STAR a lot. Adventurous, fairly clever, well cast with Ava Gardner and Broderick Crawford. Lionel Barrymore? I'm not sure. It's been a long time!
