Re: 90 inches of Celestial Chaos

Since I concentrate on Female Singing Leads I organize by performer. All of my Jeanette MacDonalds are together as well as Deanna Durbin or Grace Moore or Jane Powell or Kathryn Grayson. When I am in the mood for one or the other performer I go right to that section.

Is There An Actor's Hall Of Fame?

I wonder if a Hall Of Fame for actors exists. To many actors have been in the business for 20 plus years with many film credits but no one knows that unless they got an academy award. How about the "charactor actors" who grace the screen in movie after movie but they are nameless. All the ...

Iris Adrian Revisited

In viewing many old films in Black & White I noticed that Iris Adrian was in a ton of those movies. And I like Iris Adrian. Iris died in 1994 at the age of 82. One of my favorite old movie is "His Butler's Sister" starring Deanna Durbin and Iris was in that. In fact, Iris was in a coup...

B C & D Movies

I just bought a bargain Boxed set of 50 Musical movies on DVD. There were 12 DVDs with either 2 or 3 movies on each sdie of each DVD. I reviewed all 50 movies in my 17 DVD player setup over a course of 3 nights. Out of the 50 there were 7 movies I would care to save or remember. I never knew there w...

Smoking In The Old Movies

While watching all those old movies I noticed that almost every actor smokes, both men and women. It was almost a right of passage. Sometimes there is so much smoke there is a haze in the scene. It is something not seen in today's movies. So many old time actors died early of cancer we wonder if all...

Re: My Passion Is The Great Movie Opera Singers of 1930-1940

You guys are costing me money. I have only nine of Jeanette's films and now I want them all. The Merry Widow is my favorite but I like most of them. I will now seek to buy more for my collection. Along the way I got a bonus movie with Evelyn Laye (One Heavenly Night) and she could be an acting twin ...

Re: My Passion Is The Great Movie Opera Singers of 1930-1940

Gloria Jean is another lost product of the 30-40s musical era. Here is a mini biography of her. Birth Name Gloria Jean Schoonover Mini Biography Gloria Jean Schoonover was born on April 14, 1926 in Buffalo, New York. Re: My Passion Is The Great Movie Opera Singers of 1930-1940

I was lucky enough to win an Ebay sale of Louise (Grace Moore) for $9.99. I was the only bidder. I have been looking for this movie which is very hard to find and there it was. You never know what fortune is around the corner. My next quest is for "A Lady's Morals" which is the biography o...

Re: Happy Endings?

I hope and pray for "Happy Endings" in every movie. I never watch any movie to be sad and regularly avoid "tear jerkers". To me, war and crime movies never have a happy ending because the plot is not happy. Being from the old school I enjoy the "Fred Astaire Syndrome" o...

I Need Three Grace Moore DVDs

I am looking for the following Grace Moore movies: Louise A Lady's Morals The King Steps Out My only requirements are they all must be on DVD and of decent quality that I can enjoy. Also the price I will pay must be reasonable. Amazon had Louise for a ridiculous $139.00. I won't pay anything near th...

Re: My Passion Is The Great Movie Opera Singers of 1930-1940

I have to agree with most of your comments. I generalized and got caught doing that. I will say Humphry Bogart was one very impressionable actor. You are right about African Queen and many other of his movies. He was a strong character. I thought Cooper was unconvincing as Lou Gherig although I enjo...
