Re: Gone With or Without fanfare

Paula, what a wonderful story. Robin Williams was here in Cleveland in 2009 for heart surgery at the Cleveland Clinic. Everyone here who met him has nothing but good things to say about him. The words that keep coming up are "kind" and "generous". What a loss.

Re: Gone With or Without fanfare

I am so saddened by the death of Robin Williams. What an incredibly talented actor. My favorite performances of his are in Dead Poets' Society, Good Morning Vietnam, The Birdcage, Mrs. Doubtfire, and One Hour Photo. But, really, I can't think of any performance of his that isn't stellar, even in les...

Re: Welcome Author Phillip Done August 8-10!

Thank YOU for visiting! Yes, I do believe that it was Cary Grant who said that Rooney was the most talented actor in the business. Rooney is a particular favorite of mine. Can't wait to read your book. I really did not know much about Ann Rutherford before reading this thread! She seems like she was...

Re: Welcome Author Phillip Done August 8-10!

Hi Phillip! I am enjoying your visit! Why did Miss Rutherford retire from acting? Or did she? I've loved reading about her experiences on Pride and Prejudice. I am a big Austen fan, and I love her performance as Lydia. I was also wondering if she shared with you her thoughts regarding Mickey Rooney....

Re: The May 2014 TCM Schedule

I am so disappointed that My Man Godfrey was shown in a pan and scan print last night. It's been years since I've seen the June Allyson version. I know it's not TCM's fault. I didn't watch it beyond the first few minutes. It was filmed in Cinemascope! pan and scan--a travesty.

Bummed out.

Re: Someone's having a birthday!

Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone! Moira-- that pic of the ruby slippers is appropriate! I played the Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz twice! Enjoying a bit of a solitary birthday today. I had a coupon for a free birthday meal at an Amish restaurant in Middlefield called Mary Yoder...

Re: Gone With or Without fanfare

Thanks for posting that article on Maya Angelou, Erik. She has been a favorite of mine since I first read I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings back in my early 20's. 9 years ago, my best friend bought tickets for us to see Maya Angelou as her speaking tour stopped in Cleveland, as a 40th birthday present...

Re: Looking for recommendations for good movie reads

I highly recommend the new Barbara Stanwyck bio by Victoria Wilson--Barbara Stanwyck: Steel True 1907-1940. So incredibly detailed! I finally understand her marriage to Frank Fay now. It always seemed such an odd coupling. But he was familiar to her--both from vaudeville and Broadway. The bio only g...
