Re: Other British programming

I've noticed that Call the Midwife is available on Netflix streaming, which we have. I'll have to check it out!

Re: WHAT MUSICALS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

In the stage version, Adelaide and the Hot Box Girls sing "A Bushel and a Peck" in Act One at the Hot Box Club. At the end of the number, she has a brief scene with Nathan Detroit and then sings "Adelaide's Lament". In Act Two, Adelaide and the girls sing "Take Back Your Mink", again a number at the...

Re: WHAT MUSICALS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

Guys and Dolls is a great show for character men. You should audition! I played Adelaide many years ago. One of my favorite roles. The only drawback is that I didn't get to be in the best number in the show--Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat!

Re: Are classic musicals marred by dubbing revelations

I have to respectfully disagree about Carol Channing in Hello, Dolly! I absolutely love Streisand, and I do enjoy the film version of Dolly, but she was a bit too young for the role and had zero chemistry with Walter Matthau. I saw Carol Channing in Hello, Dolly on tour in the 1990's stage revival a...

Re: Are classic musicals marred by dubbing revelations

My understanding that Debbie Reynolds was only dubbed for one song in Singin' in the Rain--the aforementioned "Would You". If you listen to "Good Morning" it's very clear that is Debbie's voice. The role of Maria in West Side Story is made for a legit soprano. It goes up to a high B flat. I don't re...

I'm intrigued by the Dane Clark and Anita Louise films, too. The problem is that my dvr is filling up with Joan Crawford films this month!

Re: The December 2013 Schedule on TCM

Wendy--great post! So many thoughts have I. Scrooge--my sister took me to see this film when I was 5 years old. Big mistake. The horrible, hellish Christmas yet to come sequence scared the pants off of me. The 2 images that are burned into my brain are Scrooge FALLING INTO HIS OWN GRAVE and the bare...

Re: Plays Gone Bad?

When I was a teenager, the Great Lakes Theatre Festival here in Cleveland did a production of A Midsummer Night's Dream in SPACE. I just remember the men being dressed as astronauts and a vague Star Trek look. So dumb. This was in the early 80's. All I can think is that the director was inspired by ...

I absolutely love Something's Gotta Give with Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson. A really good romantic comedy with a wonderful soundtrack, too.

Re: Any Good Recipes On File?

I have a cookbook called Square Meals by Jane and Michael Stern which is a collection of vintage recipes from the 1940's-60's. Are you looking for a main dish, side dish, dessert? There is a tuna casserole recipe in there that I've made quite a bit. Sandy k ETA: I replied to Jezebel before going to ...

I love the pic of Dean Jagger! He has such a twinkle in his eye. I've never seen a pic of him in his younger days.

I'm going to lose the cigarette and put that outfit on when I go to the Zodiac Club. Actually, my hair is about that long, I just need to cut some bangs!
