Re: Choo-choo-choose Your Own Essentials!

Wow Wendy, I would have never thought you would actually make any type of list. Nice going!!! I understand how difficult making such a list for you was. I am sorry if I may have caused you to prepare such a list with my continuing to goad you into making such a list especially if you were not ready ...

Re: Choo-choo-choose Your Own Essentials!

I wish Frank would come over too! Maybe we Texan ladies could get our ropes around his neck over here where it's closer quarters... That's probably why he's staying away... :D :D :D They just plain move too fast for me in the torture thread! By the time I've come up with something to write, they ar...

Re: Citizen Kane

I am one of those movie fans who at one time may have thought that Kane was the greatest film of all time, but ever since FrankGrimes and I have been discussing films over on the message boards I have been convinced by him that there really are no great films. Only favorite films. Or in the case of ...

Thank you. I really do appreciate that. I have been enjoying writing here recently. Just need additional time.

Re: Choo-choo-choose Your Own Essentials!

Rey, I just had to laugh that I posted 3 years ago saying I'd think about it, and I still haven't done it. Making an essentials list is the equivalent of getting all my dvd's into some sort of order in my TV cabinet. :D There are so many to choose from and organizing my brain is the difficult task....

Re: Choo-choo-choose Your Own Essentials!

I guess I was right when I said it would take me a while to come up with my list of Essentials. I still haven't done it. See you in 3 years! :D Wendy, do you have a movie collection? If you do then I would think it might not take as long as you'd think it would to come up with an essential list. Le...

Re: Choo-choo-choose Your Own Essentials!

That's cool that you have the two lists to compare, Rey . I know my own choices have changed over time, at least in terms of favorites after, say, the first five or so. If I were to compare a list made when I was 20 to now, it would be quite different. The earlier list would have more 1930s movies,...

Re: Choo-choo-choose Your Own Essentials!

CarrieLiz I see an opening and I'm going to take it. The question of personal essentials is something I've been pondering. If one had to build their own film library again from scratch, what would they reach for first? We may love and want to keep hundreds of movies, but what would be our own basic...

Re: Choo-choo-choose Your Own Essentials!

Well Wendy, One could say that the films I dropped from my first list were qualified classics, some which should have not been dropped. Three comedies were dropped as were three adventure films. The others were a film noir, a western and a musical, probably one of the greatest musicals of all time. ...

Re: Choo-choo-choose Your Own Essentials!

A new look at the Essentials….. Actually in the original posting by srowley75 it was assumed that Robert Osborne was going to pick the following six films and that we should pick an additional 25 more. Citizen Kane (1941) Casablanca (1942) The Wizard of Oz (1939) Gone With the Wind (1939) The Godfat...

Re: LISTS

I like very few movies from the eighties, the decade I grew up. Apart from learning a great deal about growing up from Richard Gere. A British eighties film I'd really recommend to American audeinces is Rita, Sue and Bob too, it's a little like My Beautiful Launderette crossed with Shameless. To an...

Re: LISTS

I notice one of my favorite 80's films is not coming up. I like RAIN MAN! Unfortunately I am NOT a big fan of Rain Man. Sorry. Hoffman's performance was to me very over the top, and I have never been a big fan of Cruise. If I remember correctly Gene Hackman was up for the Oscar for Best Actor that ...

Re: LISTS

Rey, thanks for posting and for reminding us of some good movies from the 80s. Please post your favorites. I'm also on the Eye of the Needle bandwagon. Can you believe that Donald Sutherland has never been nominated for an Oscar? Thanks. I am not surprised that Sutherland has never been nominated. ...
