The inmates are running the asylum

It is quite a "freaky friday" I'm thankful for the "Bunny Lake..." repeat. I missed last friday's showing...thought I had it taped on VHS, but couldn't find it.) I have "The Naked Kiss" on DVD. I'd have to include it on my top 100 faves. I'm always blown away by how shocking, disturbing and brave it...

I always love seeing that credit! I know it's going to be a wild ride...Douglas Sirk's "Written On The Wind," Orson Welles' "Touch Of Evil" and Russ Meyer's "Fanny Hill-"featuring Miriam Hopkins as a sixty-something madam! Looking forward to seeing that credit tonight on TCM with... "High School Con...

"But ya are, Blanche..."

I think MissG hit the nail on the head... Joan was more blessed in the "good looks" and glamour department and worked hard to maintain that image. Bette was more of a "plain Jane" and worked hard to get character roles to cement her reputation as a "great actress." Who had time to deal with annoying...

One of my faves is Frank Capra's frantic classic, "Arsenic And Old Lace."
Raymond Massey really gives me the creeps in this one-almost making me forget I'm watching a dark and disturbing comedy.
Also love Roman Polanski's "Fearless Vampire Killers."

Calling Dr. Freud

I've always been a big fan of mental illness... TCM's latest "subliminal experiment" in saluting psychiatry has helped me to embrace mine... Last night I had a curious dream. (Cue fog.) I was in my living room-sitting in my favorite spot-watching a movie on TV. (I seldom dream about watching...

She's not there...

I was looking forward to watching it, but my cable was out that night. I think I may have a VHS copy (previously taped from TCM) somewhere(?) Has it been released on DVD? Or VHS even? I found a website once selling bootleg copies of several Preminger titles on DVD-for $15. I bought "Skidoo" and was ...

Happy Anniversary, Everyone!

Time really flies! I am thankful for Silver Screen Oasis...and all you wonderful people out there in the dark... Nando had a fantastic idea! I'd love to attend a gathering with all of you someday. I also value and embrace our diversity. I think it would be cool for us to package a Silver Screen Oasi...

1001 Weirdest Scenes Ever!!

Another one of my faves. Who wouldn't love "the first monster musical" with cinematography from Vilmos Zsigmond! I also love "The Thrill Killers" with Liz Renay. Steckler and Liz live in Las Vegas. Liz used to appear in the Gay Pride Parade. Steckler used to have a video rental store. Of course, all...

Congratulations, dude! That sounds like my kind of movie. Great title too. Here's hoping it's this year's "indie favorite."
Have fun in Austin...and never let 'em see you sweat. :) (Easy for me to say, right?)
Much success!

Color me green...

Thank you, Marco, for such an inspired post. I was also cerebrally impacted by this unique and thoughtful gem. I'm seldom disappointed in a Dore Schary "picture." I'm also a fan of Joseph Losey. He began his career in the theatre-writing reviews and later directing. This led to his movie career-firs...

Eureka!

Thank you, Moira! I don't know how I could forget such an easy(?) title like "Night Unto Night. I'm thilled that it was filmed-especially in the '40's by Don Seigel. Is it noir-ish? Thinking back on it, the novel did have a film noir feel-even in sun drenched Florida. I got the impression that Wylie...

Yes Sir, Mr. Bones

Glad to see another fan of Ed Wood's film noir classic, "Jail Bait." Would love to hear from you on this one, Dewey... Wood also pays loving homage to many film noir classics-from "Dark Passage" to "Sunset Boulevard" to "The Third Man." At least, that fantastic musical score (lifted from "Mesa Of Lo...

"But when I'm bad, I'm better!"

Thanks for the info, Mr. Ark. I've read about "Maniac" and I simply must get it for my collection. Do you have Millcreek's "Drive-In Classics" and "Nightmare Worlds-"both containing 50! movies? Love the new avatar-of the tempestuous Sean Young. I'm sure you heard about how she was recently escorted ...
