Return Of The Log Lady

Another "Twin Peaks" fan. I'm always giddy and a little surprised with the casts of a David Lynch project. "Twin Peaks" ran the gamut-from Ray Wise to Piper Laurie (wearing an eyepatch!) to Peggy Lipton. He also used some interesting directors on the series-including Diane Keaton and Tim Hunter-who ...

Moonlighting On TCM

Another November guest programmer I was quite pleased with (and surprised at her "classic film" knowledge) was Cybill Shepard. It seems like she really listened to Bogdanovich and learned a lot from his library of film books...and met many "players" from the Hollywood of yester-year. She's energetic...

Kiss, kiss, bang, bang!

That is an interesting choice to co-host The Essentials.
Too bad she's no longer with Marilyn Manson. He'd be a great host for TCM Underground...
Rose was so cool in "Planet Of Terror" (from the Tarantino/Rodriguez collaboration, "Grindhouse") with her "machine gun leg."

That's it!

Thanks, Chris
Normally I would have looked it up first on IMDb, but that's so hard to do with WebTV. :?

Marathon viewing...

You really had to make a major commitment to those (pre-VCR) '70's mini-series. Didn't they air on consecutive nights? I remember tuning in a coupla nights for "Roots-"including the first night-which featured a lot of nudity! That was pretty exciting for a teenage boy to see all those bare breasts o...

Urban angst circa '63...

I'm looking forward to re-visiting this gem. I've seen a lot of Natalie Wood's childhood films lately-"Miracle On 34TH Street,""No Sad Songs For Me" and the one with Fred MacMurray and Irene Dunne (?) I'm anxious to see her in an adult role...and what an adult role this is! I remember being a little...

Silent stars speak...

Thank you so much for spending time in our community, David...if I may be so bold as to call you by your first name. "Saved From The Flames" sounds great. Looking forward to that. Any chance of seeing you on TCM promoting it? I'm very curious about a Robert Florey movie from '36-"Hollywood Boulevard...

"No artificial additives..."

It took a few years, but I finally acquired a taste for "Sugar Cookies." This 1970 kinky dark comedy/"sex film" melodrama was directed by Ted Gershundy (who has a cameo in a "sex film" within the "sex film" and was married to star Mary Woronov at the time,) co-written and executive produced by Lloyd...

Mind over matter

I have to say that I admire Val Lewton very much. He was a "master" at creating atmospheric (psychological) "thrillers" on miniscule budgets. He also gave us fascinating glimpses at various "sub-cultures" and their beliefs/practices/rituals/traditions...religious groups, ethnic groups, etc.- showing...

"Gettin' my kicks..."

The pros at MGM really crafted a tense and visually stunning noir with "Act Of Violence" from 1949. Great direction from Fred Zinneman and well acted too. I especially liked the performances from the women-Janet Leigh, Phyllis Thaxter, Connie Gilchrist (I always love seeing-and hearing-her "pop up" ...

I never realized there were so many 30 minute westerns?
What about "F Troop" and "The Best Of The West..."

The Usual Suspects...

I just noticed that there were (count 'em) 59 users online October 22 11:59 AM. (Eastern time, of course.)
Well, what did I miss?

"Go, girl, go!"

"Asta" la vista? I enjoyed the musical numbers and glorious Technicolor of "Let's Do It Again-"not to mention that fabulous mid-century Manhattan apartment...Jane Wyman had a great time "channeling" Irene Dunne, but Ray Milland's role just wasn't "meaty" enough for him and there wasn't much chemistr...
