Hiya folks ... I can't recall how many threads I've read entitled something like; How do we get young people into classic film? . Well, I've been seeing more and more youngsters participate in movie boards. I've gotten to know some of them. Some of their posting is horrendous but they are showing an...

This from Barrie Maxwell in June 2005 ... Old news I'm sure you're aware of ... "Flicker Alley's third release, F.W Murnau's Phantom (1922), is now planned for an autumn 2005 release. Thanks for the Julie thread John ... Love all the pictures ... Wonderful ... "Thoroughly Modern Millie" is a fave. It's Julie Andrews in the roaring twenties caught between trying to be 'a modern' and trying to get married. The film is a zany romantic spoof of the flapper days and is more of a comed...

Re: Letty Lynton

I've long been wanting to see this movie and have had opportunities to get ahold of copies, but they're always poor quality video to DVD transfers, so I hold off. There've been rumors that the copyright problems are finally being worked out, and there have been some screenings in the past few years...

I am glad to see & read here that Miss Crawford is being honoured and not maligned as in so many, many threads. It seems that several 'fans of movies', who are not old enough or savvy enough to have been alive and cognizant of her career are passing judgement on her private life when they know noth...

MGM was responsible for Judy Garlands habits, yet they still expected a full day's work from her, and gave her more pills to get through the day. I think they finally had their fill though with the "Annie Get Your Gun" ordeal. During that stretch anyway, Judy made it very difficult to get things do...

Watching "Marty" again, recently, I was so bowled over by Borgnine's little scene where Marty calls a girl he met a few weeks before to ask for a date. How Borgnine subtly and believably goes from nervous, to hopeful, to humiliated in the space of a minute or two - it's painful to watch, and oh so ...

This song began life in 1936 as "The Weed Smoker's Dream" by the remarkable and underappreciated band known as the Harlem Hamfats. Their original disc released on Decca's 'race' series, was subtitled "Why Don't You Do Now" and within a few years composer Joe McCoy refined the tune into this ... Pegg...
