How can anyone not like Gene Kelly . He was genius and made some of the happiest films out there. I can understand Chaplin as a person not being to everyone's taste. I would like to try and make anyone who doesn't like him watch a Mutual comedy though. 20 minutes and you'd be convinced of his lastin...

I watched this only last week. I had watched it once before but I enjoyed it more this time around. Garbo is peerless. She is a brilliant Camille. I thought this was her best talkie along with Queen Christina. It's difficult to judge Robert Taylor. Armand isn't a flattering character but he does lea...

I can't take to Charlton Heston. I just don't know why. The only movie I've got through with him in is A Touch of Evil and that's because it had Orson Welles in it, it balanced it up for me.

I've only seen Kirk Douglas in Out of The Past and Spartacus. I find him difficult to watch.

Perhaps you're right. Perhaps it is perceived differently now. I too liked Marie Prevost I think she shone and stole many scenes but I did like Lina Basquette in the role of Judy.

A truly lovely film.

I've watched The Red Lily . This film was restored for TCM and a new soundtrack added. The restorers did a sterling job. The colouring and clarity of the picture is a joy to see. The films stars Ramon Navarro and Enid Bennett as lovers who escape to Paris only to be seperated. For a year they toil a...

I'm not an expert on Charlie's personal life but I do know that he and Edna were 'going together' to use the quaint term. In his autobiography he attests to her being clingy with him and them two timing him with Thomas Meighan, she couldn't make her mind up. The fact she was dallying with another ma...

Doris Nolan is miscast in the 38 version. I can't see for the life of me what attracted Cary's Johnny.

I read a quote from Katharine Hepburn about Cary Grant in the thirties, she said he was a little chubby in those days. Not to me, he was perfect :D

Wow, this thread is really interesting regarding Cover Girl. I love the film, although I wouldn't put it as one of Kelly's best I like the cameraderie between Gene Kelly, Rita Hayworth and Phil Silvers. I always have to rewind the musical number were Gene Kelly dances with his own reflection. He's j...

I've seen both versions of Wuthering Heights. The one with Laurence Olivier and the one with Timothy Dalton. Watch The Laurence Olivier version, it is abridged from the novel but it has the atomosphere and Larry is Heathcliff.

Stuart it is available from DVD rental services in the UK.

I've only seen the Cary Grant version and I do like to see him paired with KAtharine Hepburn although I can understand the point that she is too zany sometimes. Any viewer who doesn't like her in this is going to struggle with her in Bringing up Baby. I would love to see the original though, especia...

Hmm, it's a difficult one. The given view is that the tramp made his last appearance walking off hand in hand with Paulette Goddard in Modern Times. A fitting end to the tramp, this time he's not alone and they'll get by together. Anyone who has seen The Great Dictator's opening scenes on the battle...

I watched the documentary Murnau and Borzage at Fox this morning. It is an extra worth having. I love the way their careers mirrored each other and in the speace of 2 years made some American classics like Sunrise, Seventh Heaven, The River, City Girl etc. There is a lovely shot of the Fox backlot s...

I admit I'm a big Alan Bates fan and I've never had chance to see the TV series but this generation is my parents generation and I know a few couples who weren't matched but made their way through for the sake of the children. Today it wouldn't happened, was it a more innocent age or did we take our...
