A Kind Of Loving is one of my all time favorite films. This situation in that film was an all to real situation for young people in the sixties. The use of the Northern town as backdrop to the film's storyline makes the film so poignant.

I'm so fond of Celia Johnson and Brief Encounter. They don't make them like that anymore, it's very true. She's also a revelation in The Happy Breed. To me she encapsulates the 'make do and mend' British woman of the war years than Hollywood's Greer Garson.

I've had chance to see this release now. It's everything Annharding said it was. It is like watching a different movie. The restoration and the added scene open the movie up so much more. The scene that was cut is torrid. It's well worth a look. I've not had chance to see the extras yet but I will b...

I agree with you about Thelma Todd I saw her in Speak Easily and I thought she was a hoot. I've watched M'liss which I thought was a far better film that Heart O The Hills and it didn't suffer from a bad soundtrack. I saw Wild Oranges a beautiful print, set amongst beautiful scenery. My first chance...

I agree with Feaito, although I haven't seen as quite as many films I think she is a fantastic actress and I wish she was better known today.

In the past few days I've had the chance to watch :) The Love of Jeanne Ney after being completely captivated by the films Pabst made with Louise Brooks. it was a very enjoyable film, not quite as stylish as Pandoras Box but memorable. I'd watch it again :) Steamboat Bill Jnr for some reason despite...

I bought a CD of Carl Davis silent scores called the Silents. It has on it the score for Wings amongst others. I only wish it was as easy to find the films with the Carl Davis scores. I appreciate your frustration.

I hope you taped it. I've only seen stills of this movie but Valentino looks very nice in them.

I have a friend who bought the DVD release who can vouch for the fact the Moran of The Lady Letty is a good film.

Let us know what you think :)

Jondaris, You've said what I'm beginning to feel about Miss Gish, that she wasn't the most reliable source. As I read more and more material about the silent era it's compounding that feeling. Lillian Gish made some outstanding films in the silent era. My personal favorite is The Wind. She is a fine...

What a man :D I thought he did but I watched Safety Last with a documentary over the top and it was more sceptical about how much Harold did. In the documentary you mention Harold is credited with much of the work apart for the extreme longshots becuae you can't have the films most valuable star wit...

Thanks Gagman, I loved Annie Rooney but I think my favorite Pickford film so far is My Best Girl. It's just so sweet. I like all her work, it's enchanting. I wish I could help you with those films Gagman but I know of nobody who has them :( Last night I watched Marianne with Marion Davies. Quite a r...

There is a documentary available about Buster Keaton called A Hard Act To Follow by Kevin Brownlow. It is great and can be rented in the UK off any of the postal services or bought on Amazon. This featues pictures/footage of the waterfall reconstructed at the Keaton Studios so that the stunt could b...

I agree those two films with Hayley plus The Family way are a must.

I've just finished reading his book, it's brilliant. I saw his show in Manchester he showed Safety Last and the opening sequence of The Circus amongst other clips. He was fair to all comedians.

Is there any ending to a film better than the ending of City Lights?
