I'm not sure how much chance it has on a practical matter. If each station survived solely on the number of people who subscribed to it instead of the number of households on the system it might bring a different outcome. Would enough people choose the C-Span or the Biography channel, for example (f...

Danny: For a long time I did them myself at the piano. Last year I wrote one for the opening of our new building and got the whole band to play. I have a recording and, apart from my vocal, it's really nice. It's an unusual feeling to hear all the instruments and a harmony vocal on my song. People h...

Miss G: From someone who can't draw a straight line, please consider posting them. I write songs and do them mainly for my church band. I know when I think my songs may be average at best someone comes along and mentions how much they liked it or how it spoke to them. But with songs they're gone as ...

Favorite and best are two different things. "Red River" may be the best, which reminds me of a Ford film. "Angel and The Badman" and maybe "The Shootist" rank among my favorites.

Thanks so much fo the info. Unheralded but always necessary he sure added a great deal to any movie.

I've seen "My Six Convicts" but it was a long time ago. Probably long enough that I didn't appreciate who he was.

My kids love "Robin Hood: Men In Tights." And it that pun laced humor that they find so funny. They enjoy the song and frequently sing it. What am I to make of my teenage daughter who loves both "Roman Holiday" and this one?

Along with Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., I think he was the best dressed man in Hollywood. Very few could wear a suit like Grant.

I think the DVD had a good idea in showing the way Zanuck released it and the way Ford wanted it released. Good commentary too.

Re: Welcome MikeBSG!

Did Millard Mitchell ever give a less than good performance in his brief Hollywood career? Happily his role as the compassionate lawman in The Gunfighter fit him like a worn glove. I also like Richard Jaeckel as the young tough who challenges Peck in this film. I don't know what Mitchell did for a ...

No argument from me. It seems to be everything that is Flynn. He's brave, charming, funny, very athletic all wrapped up in a beautiful color film. Anytime you can throw in Olivia it only helps. I would follow closely with "Captain Blood" and then maybe one of his westerns.

Looks like a very nice schedule. A few more new films. With Randolph Scott (cue chorus*) some people around here are going to be very happy even if it doesn't include all his late great westerns. Another busy month for the DVR.

*been wanting to do that for some time now.

There's a scene where she tries to justify buying their son a new suit. By the time she's done she's convinced Powell he'll almost make money on the deal. Her life's dedication after Powell himself is to get him baptized once she's found out he managed to get this far on life without benefit of bapt...
