Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
I recently did a Paul Bartel mini-fest, watching Death Race 2000 , Cannonball! , and Raoul . And because I couldn't get enough of him and Mary Woronov, I also watched Rock and Roll High School . Bartel and Wornov reprise their Raoul characters in a cameo in Chopping Mall . Not a recommendation, min...

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
A few quickie reviews of movies I've managed to see during those times I'm not at work or studying: * Looking for Mr. Goodbar was much better than I'd expected it to be. I'd wanted to see it mainly because, as a Tuesday Weld fan, I'd always wanted to check out the performance that earned her an Osca...

Re: Drive-In Double Features
Aw, gee, Moira, I think it sounds like fun. Right now, I'm cable-less, but I would be watching as time permits if I had the station. (It's probably good that I haven't, seeing as how I'm in summer school.) I just wish they'd booked more of the higher-end cheesy flicks, such as The Leech Woman with C...

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
This week, my sister and I traveled to the Wexner Center in Columbus to see a Chaplin double feature on the big screen: City Lights (1931), her favorite Chaplin movie, and Modern Times (1936), not just my favorite Chaplin film but one that I list in my personal top ten of all time. It was a joy to f...

Re: Miranda Richardson, underrated British actress
I'm a rabid Miranda Richardson fan. I recently saw Dance WIth a Stranger for the first time and thought her superb. And I thought she was robbed -big time - of a Supporting Actress Oscar in 1992, for either Damage (for which she was nominated) or The Crying Game . I'm also wanting to see Made in Dag...

Re: Whistle Down the Wind (1961)
I loved this film when I saw it a while back. Great photography, and some of the best performances by children you're ever likely to see. Mills is one of the few child stars I can honestly say was a gifted performer from the get-go. It's amazing that she somehow ended up at Disney.

It wasn't bleeped when I saw it, either. That's what was so surprising to me.knitwit45 wrote:I must have seen it on it's premier showing, because she WASN'T bleeped! I think I was drinking something at the time, because I remember choking...with laughter!!!!!

Re: New Voice on a Traditional Subject
I missed that one. What did she say? Oh, it's too good to spoil. Perhaps it's available on YouTube (I can't search from work). If not, check out the special edition DVD of Bringing Up Baby , which includes the documentary as a special feature. I have to say that when I heard it, I was glad I wasn't...

I will admit that those rumors have always annoyed me.
I loved Betsy Drake's response to the gay rumors in the TCM documentary on Grant.

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
Took a break from studies over Easter to watch a couple that'd been on my "to see" list for years: Equus (1977), a well-made adaptation of the Peter Shaffer play directed by the recently departed Sidney Lumet and featuring an Oscar-caliber performance by Richard Burton (sad that he didn't ...

August 2011 TCM Schedule
I'd also love to see They Knew What They Wanted (1940), which I've heard is one of Laughton's best. I have seen that one. It's definitely a very odd picture. Just imagine Laughton wearing a curly black wig (to look Italian) and wooing simple waitress Carole Lombard! Garson Kanin describes in some d...

August 2011 TCM Schedule
Thanks, Moira. I've seen both The Suspect and They Knew What They Wanted . I only wish TCM would show decent copies of both so I could replace my old videotape-to-DVD copies. The last time The Suspect aired, to my knowledge, was a while back on the Encore Mystery channel (where my copy came from); b...

August 2011 TCM Schedule
Sorry to be the eternal party popper (with apologies to Lucy as well), but while I'm elated about Jean Gabin day (I'll definitely be setting my folks' DVR) and I'm glad to see Joan Blondell get her own marathon - it's disappointing that there aren't more Paramount/Universal films scheduled when, fro...

August 2011 TCM Schedule
I don't know about the schedule, but this was my first visit to the website in a very long time (as I no longer have cable) and I absolutely despise the changes. I much prefer the cleaner, less cumbersome pages that simply listed the schedule of films and gave brief synopses. Not all change is a goo...

Re: What Horror and Sc-Fi films have you seen lately?
Awesome! I will be contributing to this thread soon - once school finally lets up. I will probably need a therapist to recover from this semester. Perhaps some violence will provide an outlet for my tension. I have to admit I refrained from reading about most of the movies until I get a chance to gi...
