Dear pktrekgirl, Barbara Stanwyck is also one of my favorite actresses. I'm sure you've seen far more of her films than I have and I was wondering what role of hers is your favorite? It may not even be in your favorite Stanwyck movie but just her finest performance. A lot of the movies I watch for t...

Dewey, What did you think of William Bendix in Wake Island and Lifeboat ? You're absolutely right about him not getting the chance to play the lead in a straight drama too often, but when he did, from what I've seen, he did a more than adequate job of it. It seems a shame that he's probably best rem...

Dear Lynn and Mongo,

Thanks for all the info. I knew I could count on you. I do remember some of those musicals with Judy Garland but I didn't know where they fit in a time line relative to his Andy Hardy roles. Thanks again.

I still maintain that "The Essentials" hasn't been anything special since Sydney Pollack hosted the series. I got the feeling that he picked the movie himself and then did a superb job of explaining why it was "essential." Peter Bogdanovich was barely tolerable with his impressio...

Believe it or not, Ive never seen A Streetcar Named Desire so I'm looking forward to that (Tuesday at 12:30am est) and then there's not a lot that piques my interest until Saturday afternoon at 2:15 est when The Westerner airs and finally The Producers is on at 8 that evening. It does seem like an a...

Mickey Rooney

I know that Mickey Rooney has been around for what seems like forever. I'm guessing that he first arose to real popularity with the "Andy Hardy" series of movies. I've just watched " The Black Stallion " and came away more than a little impressed with his performance in the film....

Wasn't this film (loosely) based on the life of Amy Semple McPherson, the evangelist of the early 20th century? Do you recall whether the film carried the disclaimer about "any similarity to persons living or dead is purely coincidental?" Thanks.

Let's not forget Jay Silverheels as one of the two Osceola brothers on the run from the sheriff. He went on to immortality as The Lone Ranger's "faithful Indian sidekick" Tonto.

Take care all,

My dear Klondike, "Try some of this, it's called fire water." Westward ho!" Oh well, I'm just "Waiting for the electrician or someone like him." Hope all is well at your end. Stay in touch. Thanks for helping out with the board. Can you imagine what the moderator(s) over at ...

It's easy...

You'd be amazed at what sticks between these ears Moraldo! I guess that's why nature blessed me with so much room to spare, she knew I'd find some kind of a use for it. When it comes to meaningless trivia, I'm your man! But thanks for the compliment nonetheless.

Your humble servant,

Thanks. I believe it was a song released for radio play that happened to be used in the movie, but I'm not entirely certain. Looking forward to hearing from you and thanks again.

Movie Producers (continued)

Thanks for the assist so far gentlemen. Taking the question one step further, does that mean that the titles "Executive," "Assistant," "Associate" or "Co-producer" might serve as much to stroke an ego as much as they would to bestow credit on an individual for...

Can you name that song?

In the film Now, Voyager , Paul Henreid and Bette Davis were dancing to the same song that Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman danced to during a flashback to their days in Paris in Casablanca . I believe the primary instrument being played in the song was the saxophone. Is anyone familiar enough wit...

Movie Producers

Hi all, I'm going to ask what some will surely consider a "stupid question" but Momma always said "The only stupid question is the one you don't ask." Would someone please explain to me what exactly is the role of the producer in the making of a motion picture? I just realized th...
