Takeoffs/Spoofs
Kyle,
How about a takeoff on the "What a Character" spot that TCM runs from time to time? It might just present some interesting possibilities. With your sense of creativity, I'm sure you could do a lot with it.

Forbidden Planet
Hi Everyone,
I'd like to trade for a copy of "Forbidden Planet." But only because it's such a dead on interpretation of William Shakespeare's The Tempest. Maybe we can both "prosper(o)" from the trade. I know, the worst pun I've ever come up with, intentional or not!

BobHopeFan, The drawings you did show a lot of talent. I've been drawing off and on since childhood and most people say I have (had) a certain amount of talent. But when it comes to the human form, especially portraits, like you've done, I'm lost! I'd have trouble rendering a smiley face with any re...

Book to trade?
Hi all, Most of you know that I'm a relative newcomer to classic movies so it's no surprise that I have only one book in my library devoted to movies. It's titled " 2000 Movies, 1940's " by Robin Cross. Published by Arlington House in 1985, it's described as " The ultimate pictorial r...

My Top 5 Musicals
It's a good thing that you only asked for our top 5 musicals because I don't think I could have named 6! They're just not my genre of choice though I can appreciate the unique problems encountered during filming (i.e. sound, choreography, actor's vocal abilities) that others wouldn't present. So her...

John Grisham
Hi Moira, I've just started reading John Grisham's 18th novel (and his first work of non-fiction) "The Innocent Man." The style of writing he has so engrossingly used in his fictional work is so far just as effective in this true story. I've read 9 of his titles to date (having only discov...

No argument here...
Sorry to disappoint you, but you'll get no argument from me about this movie (and that's being generous calling it a movie!) I think I've finally found the cure for my insomnia! We're just over 35 minutes into it and I'm ready to pull the plug! I never used to pay a lot of attention to who directed ...

Favorite duos...
Any number of memorable romantic duos spring to mind and obviously there are too many to list. Let me just go with the first five that came to mind. I don't know why they headed the list but here they are: 1. Clark Gable and Vivian Leigh in GWTW 2. Leslie Howard and Olivia DeHavilland in GWTW 3. Cla...

Co-hosting duties...
Bring back Sydney Pollack (if he'll agree to it) as "The Essentials" co-host. He has an engaging personality, speaks very well and knows what he's talking about! He is a multiple Oscar winner, is he not? Like so many other ventures, it's hard to improve upon the original!

Left vs right? Liberal vs Conservative? Fiction vs Fact?
Hi Ken, I think you're absolutely correct in your observation. I think that those to the left of the political spectrum are probably more cynical by nature and mistrustful of the government than those to the right, those that once would have said "America, love it or leave it." It might be...

My two favorite "Screwball" comedies
Good evening everyone, My two favorite comedies are both the product of one twisted mind. One, which airs on TCM periodically is probably already considered a classic and the other will no doubt be considered among the best ever made once it has a few more years under its' belt. I'm sure it's alread...

John Hodiak...
Hi Ken, I'm not up on what studios produced/released what films and the movie I'm going to mention is from the 40's but not a noir by any means. It's not even a crime drama. Of all the films I've seen with John Hodiak, I think the best was "Lifeboat" which I think was an Alfred Hitchcock f...

The Nekked City
I don't know what all the fuss is about with regard to this movie. I found it slowly paced, even dragging at times. Maybe it's seeing Barry Fitzgerald, with, as he says in the movie, "28 years on the force" still sounding like he just stepped off the boat from Dublin that does it in for me...
