Hummm...you had me until you mentioned the kid.
PLEASE tell me he isn't a whiner. After having Brannon deWilde ruin SHANE for me, I'm hesitant to watch any more films with kids in them who are whiners.
Whiners and wimps get on my nerves.

^ I halfway wonder if the writers started going in that direction, then forgot about it and neglected to pick it back up later. Or worse, that the story was originally written that way but that that part of the storyline got edited out. Seems unlikely with the 'happily ever after' ending though...so...

Hi Beda---I know what you mean, I think I am the only person on the face of the earth who dislikes him in The Lady Eve. To me, the tricks Stanwyck's character plays on him are too much like shooting fish in a barrel. Yes! Exactly! Actually, I think he was even more of a wuss in THE LADY EVE than in...

>>>I don't really understand this phenomenon where people assume that because Gable is so recognizable as a 'star' that he's not that good of an actor. <<< Hi Beda---I knew you'd chime in here, too. :D Yeah, there are certain actors who you can always expect a response from me on - and of course, C...

I enjoyed it, too, and am happy I recorded it. Margaret Lindsay was very pretty and always projected intelligence and class. I thought it interesting how she really put on the posh accent in the beginning of the film, but as she got closer to Powell and let down her guard, she began to speak more n...

Vallo, I so agree with you about how back then they sure knew how to tell a rather sophisticated little story in a minimum of time. This is not a long film...and yet they managed to have time for a few plot twists! Good for them! Sure, they didn't spend alot of time on his 'fall from grace' at the b...

Thanks again for the info, As long as we're on the subject, who is your favorite Doctor Who? My local PBS station is currently running the Tom Baker episodes (in between the never ending pledge drives). Tom Baker was the first Doctor Who I ever saw (25 years ago), so he probably remains my favorite...

PRIVATE DETECTIVE 62 (1933)
Well, after 3 months of waiting, this rarely seen William Powell film finally came up on the schedule last week. And since I'm a William Powell fan of ginormous proportions, I of course recorded it and couldn't wait to watch. In short, I really enjoyed it. I mean, it was no THIN MAN...nor was it up ...

You know, I have never been able to warm up to Henry Fonda...and I'm hoping October will change that. I think it's because I've seen him play so many weenies. That character he played in THE BIG STREET? ACK! I just wanted to slap him. What a wuss! And his characters in THE MAD MISS MANT...

Good to see someone giving some props to Clark. I don't really understand this phenomenon where people assume that because Gable is so recognizable as a 'star' that he's not that good of an actor. Gable won one Oscar, and if GWTW had come out in pretty much any other year besides 1939, he's have won...

Re: Mark your calendars now!
(If you're a fumblin', grumblin' Luddite like moi , extort a younger/hipper relative to do it for you; sons-in-law are especially handy, as they're seldom relaxed enough in your presence to razz you about being technologically challenged!) I *knew* I needed one of those. :P Anyway, DVD recorder wil...
