Re: Q & A with Jacqueline T. Lynch, Biographer of Ann Blyth

Let me take the second part of the question first. I did speak with a few of Ann's colleagues, and utilized, among other resources, the Herman Shumlin papers in the Wisconsin Historical Society (Shumlin directed Ann in Watch on the Rhine on Broadway). However, the "movie magazine folderol"...

Re: Q & A with Jacqueline T. Lynch, Biographer of Ann Blyth

Hello, Moira, and thank you for inviting me to chat today. As a member of the SSO I’ve enjoyed combing through the various threads, and lurked on the guest appearances for other authors, so it’s quite a change to be sitting in the other chair this time. Your question, phrased as it is, really hits t...

Re: New York City

Fossy, I agree -- I've been to NYC many times and never felt threatened, including on the subways. But my only trip to Key West was met with peril of the humorous kind. Not only were there those free-spirited types one meets, but a party of celebrating ladies just off a cruise ship, three-sheets to ...

Re: New York City

Fabulous. I hope you enlarge that photo to poster size and hang it in pride of place, Fossy. (Ann is lovely, and you are a handsome gent.) Love to hear more about your cruise.

Re: New York City

Well done on your quest to meet Ann Blyth in person! Did you speak to her? What did she discuss in her interview session?

Re: TCM Cruise 2014

So happy for you, and glad you are going. It will be a great adventure, and I'm sure you'll return home with many happy memories. Don't forget your camera, and tell us all about it when you come back home and back to the Silver Screen Oasis.

Re: Ann Blyth

Fossy, that's a sweet story about Ann Blyth replying to your letter. I did manage to find a copy of Free for All , in rather rough shape, but still watchable. I'm still on the lookout for Katie Did It. Not having much luck so far. Also searching for her various TV appearances. If you're still intere...

Re: Ann Blyth

Thanks so much Joseph, and Vienna. I'm enjoying the journey, and I hope readers will too. Tomorrow it's a look at what I think is the best of Ann's many radio performances, in this case, a live performance, of the Victorian suspense tale "The Angelic Avengers" on the splendid Studio One se...

Re: Ann Blyth

Thank you, Moira, for spreading the word. (I love your avatar with Grady Sutton and Florence Bates.)

The year-long series will cover Ann's TV, radio, and stage work as well as her films. Next Thursday is Mr. Peabody and the Mermaid with William Powell.

Re: *CANDIDS*

I think that was from Screen Director's Playhouse , an episode called "Number 5 Checked Out". Teresa played a blind woman unknowingly hosting criminals on the lam in her tourist cabins. It was on TCM some time back. I wonder if TCM ever did a full day of Ida Lupino-directed movies and shows?

Love Connie Gilchrist, and especially that clip from Presenting Lily Mars. The glamorous young Judy and the old character actress in a moment of sublime, simple elegance. So touching.
