Re: Maverick
I don't think I've ever met anyone who said they didn't like Maverick. It's quirky enough to appeal to non-western fans, but in a way is best appreciated by western fans, who'll pick up on all the in-jokes. "The Rivals", "Shady Deal At Sunny Acres", and "Gun-Shy" are th...

Re: Netflix Films Streaming and DVD By Mail
I canceled my Netflix DVD plan last month (I only ever tried their streaming plan for a few months). Few of their "recent additions" were old or classic, and every title in my queue (less than a dozen) was on "short wait". I only have ClassicFlix now, and I get about three titles...

Re: Gone With or Without fanfare
Here is the TCM Remembers Ray Harryhausen spot, beautifully made by Scott McGee: Oh thank you for posting it... My favorite of his films remains the first I ever saw, The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad. It was one of my younger brother's favor...

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
I've only seen a part of Shake Hands With the Devil , the very end which was powerful but I was more watching Glynis Johns, it was hard to tell what Cagney's character was from the part I saw. His character is an IRA chief, a skilled Dublin surgeon, and a man who disapproves strongly of loose women...

Re: Your Ten Most Wanted?
"It's Not Cricket" is not on this new list of yours. Did you find a copy of that too? Or was it re-prioritized in the tinkering? ( I certainly know how that goes... ) While looking up cast lists of your first ten, I noticed that "...Cricket" stars Basil Radford and Naunton Wayne...

My bulletted list is in chronological order, you'll notice. ) That's slow of me, no I didn't! I wish you the best of luck in finding them, I wish I could help you with more than one (and I'll keep in mind what you said about The Runaround. ) But I wonder about "The Midas Touch&qu...

Re: Favorite John Wayne Western - NOT Directed by John Ford
A hard question, but I'd have to go with Rio Bravo as well. Any movie that's such a part of your upbringing that you can vaguely recall reenacting it as a child, with the assistance of your brothers and a very large teddy bear*, has to maintain a strong hold of your mind and affections. (*None of us...

Re: Your Ten Most Wanted?
My angel, Mary: you're a hard, hard woman! Everyone tells me that. Can't understand why. (A conciliatory idea: we could compile multiple lists: "My Ten Most Wanted", "My Next Ten Most Wanted," "My Last Ten Most Wanted.") Good job with the list; some are appar...

Re: Audie L Murphy
Audie Murphy is vastly underrated as an actor, and he shouldn't be. I hope the following video will help illustrate his powerful performance in The Red Badge of Courage. Take special note of: 1) His fear and eventual panic at the approach...

every scene builds on the last scene and the story is always going somewhere I'm so glad you said that, Mary Kate. That's a concept I appreciate, even if this is not one of my favorites. Thanks, RedRiver, and you're welcome. One event clearly, and believably, leads to another. This happens...becaus...

Re: Randolph Scott - Tribute
Tall Man Riding is a favorite Scott western of mine. Very tightly paced regarding plot construction, every scene builds on the last scene and the story is always going somewhere. A great cast too, some actors who haven't been mentioned yet are Robert Barrat, John Dehner, and Paul Richards. Barrat m...
