Re: Gone With or Without fanfare

Meinhardt Raabe, who played the Munchkin coroner in The Wizard of Oz, is not only merely dead, but really most sincerely dead at age 94.

Re: Glad your back

I'm sorry about that. [ techie crap ]This goes back to an old "catch all" email address I had set up -- one that would take any email sent to any of the three domains that redirect to SSO. It was getting spam at an amazing level, enough to cause server lag and affect other sites that are h...

Re: Kurosawa tribute-recommendations?

I didn't record High and Low since I have the DVD, but it's a great film. He got he story from one of Ed McBain's 87th Precinct novels, King's Ransom. I was about a quarter into the movie when I realized that, and research confirmed that Kurosawa based the movie on the book.

I gotta say, I can't stand either one of them. Busby¥ Berkeley still wins in my book.

Well crap, I missed it. Serves me right. There's so few premieres, and I've recorded nearly everything they show regularly.

I haven't seen the movie, but I've read the book. Lehane is good though -- he does both good plots and he's a good writer.

Re: What are you reading?

Courtney found me a copy of the 1971 book "Faces, Forms, Films: the Artistry of Lon Chaney." Not too far into it, but it seems like a good read about my all time favorite actor.

I think it's also because male roles didn't change as much with the coming of the code as the female roles did. The ...

I was lucky enough to see "All Quiet on the Western Front" at the Smithsonian on a big screen with an audience. People walked out looking stunned.

Re: Everyday Things Never Happen in the Movies

I know it's fairly common on-set prank to eat lots of garlic and neglect to rinse your mouth out when shooting an intimate scene that requires kissing. David Boreanz used to do this to Sarah Michelle Gellar all the time.

#4 on that list should be #1 in my opinion. And not having "The Big Parade" on there is just criminal.
