Re: The September 2013 TCM Schedule

I absolutely loved the Kim Novak interview with Robert Osborne at the film festival. I watched it twice! Now that I understand Kim Novak's naturalistic, emotional based approach to acting, I have a new appreciation for her work. I teach acting/youth theatre, and as a student of acting myself, I am f...

Re: The September 2013 TCM Schedule

I didn't realize Gaily, Gaily was based on the life of Ben Hecht. Definitely gonna record that! Brian Keith--what a gorgeous hunk of man! He has an innate kindness that comes through in all of his performances. I recorded the Cinerama doc. Looking forward to it. Don't remember the TCM board drama, t...

Re: What are you reading?

Masha, I've not read any books by Terry Pratchett, but he is one of my husband's favorite authors. The books are a blend of fantasy and humor. I say, give them a try.

Wendy--I am floored by the eloquence of your thoughts about what Julie Harris taught you about acting. Bravo!

I am saddened by her death. A great, great actress.

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

Catching up on pages and pages of this thread... firstly, maven I am so jealous that not only did you get to ride on the TCM tour bus with lovely Jane Powell, but you got a big hug from Robert Osborne! I would've swooned. Waaaay back, Mike posted about Madonna and the Seven Moons. I watched that thi...

Re: Coincidences

I had heard when you have coincidences like this happen, it's just a sign that you are on the right track in life. Everything's GOOD, not bad!

Re: What are you listening to?

Esquivel is fun, too! My favorite of the Ultra-Lounge cd's is Vol. 10: A Bachelor in Paris. Lots of that French concertina sound and jazzy scat singing. I love Vol. 1: Mondo Exotica as a close second. But they're all great. I really became a Bruno Mars fan when he hosted SNL last season. He reminds ...

Re: What are you listening to?

I LOVE the Google page today! Clair de Lune is one of my favorite pieces of music. It always brings tears to my eyes. I wish that I had been able to continue with piano lessons when I was young. I can only pick out enough to learn my voice part on songs. Masha, the Russian videos were fun! I liked t...

Re: The Major and The Minor

I see your point, knitty, but I just...wish that Ray Milland figured it out earlier. Or seemed more disturbed that Ginger is flirting with him.

But, whatevs! To each his own! I love Bringing Up Baby and that film seems to irritate lots of people.

Re: The Major and The Minor

But...there is a big difference in being attracted to another adult of the same sex, and being attracted to a 12 year old child...I can't quite accept that analogy. I had the same problem with the film that Nick did. It just seemed icky after a while. I didn't lose any sleep over it, I get that time...

I find Buster Keaton to be a good intro into silents. His stunts always inspire awe, and he's funny.

Re: Gone With or Without fanfare

Catching up here---saddened to read about Bernie Sahlins. Great article! I teach improv to kids and teens. I feel that it should be included in all study of acting technique, yet it's usually looked upon as a separate thing.

RedRiver--do you still do any improv?
