Yesterday I saw Grapes of Wrath . I've seen it once before, some time ago. This time my first impression of it was reinforced: it isn't a flawless film, but the overall feeling you have from watching it is emotional exhaustion because of how cruelly people treat each other and how willing they are t...

:) All right, I'll look for it. I don't know if you can find it in stores here or not, but I'll keep an eye out. It sounds like a great film! I've become more interested in later film classics from Hollywood's golden age now, anyway. Otherwise I've been pretty zoned in on silents. I appreciate other...

Judith, as much as I really like Maltese Falcon , I thought Mary Astor was the most unattractive "hottie" ever. That was the first time I had seen her in a movie. Imagine my surprise to find her as a lovely, intelligent woman in Dodsworth. And the chemistry between Ms. Astor and Bogart in...

Silentscreen wrote: No it's not funny Hedvig. You feel strongly about it. I do too. What's sad is that it still continues to go on in this country after all these years. They've even taken Palin's head and super imposed it on top of another body clad in a bikini. That's really sexist too! Never at a...

I think you're right there, and I get really impatient when the side I'm supposed to agree with starts focusing on trivialities like that. Sarah Palin has become a target for sexism, and I feel ashamed when I read about it. There are certainly legitimate reasons to criticize her for. Why do they fee...

Christine, that sounds like a fascinating screening! :D

They are showing the 1916 propaganda film The Somme in Stockholm on October 28. I'm not sure if I can afford to cut class and go...

Yes, at least Isn't Life Wonderful would deserve being a part of the masterworks set. And I would love to see more minor films and biograph shorts on DVD. But, you can get the titles of this set individually if you're not interested in it as a whole.

No wonder he chose that bit to showcase in another film.

I would also love to see a DVD version of The Big Parade, and I hold on to the belief that such a classic can't be ignored forever. The same with Wings. At any rate, two entertaining costume dramas from the silent era doesn't seem like such a bad package. Christine, thanks for the review! Your judge...

To me he has never given the impression of being that confused, but then again I haven't followed the campaign as closely as some of you. Maybe he has been given incoherent advice on what to say. However, he is getting on in years and it's perfectly possible that it's affecting his judgement. He see...

Thanks for the review, coopsgirl! According to William K. Everson it's one of the great forgotten classics.

Jeff, that picture is gorgeous. She had a great deal of charm, didn't she?

I didn't know this had been turned into a musical. It's interesting to see how changing the time period when it's set changes certain aspects of the story. Thanks for the review, stuart.uk.
