Re: WHAT MUSICALS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

Well I finally got around to watching "The Pirate" last night and my opinion has not changed. This movie is not for me. It is too soupy camp. I love Judy and Gene but not in this flick. I saw little humor in the humor of the plot. I know this was meant to be a spoof and a farce but they w...

Re: WHAT MUSICALS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

Jeannette MacDonald die in the arms of Brian Aherne That 1941 version of Smilin' Through is all right but if you want to see the one that will really rip you up, check out the 1932 version with Norma Shearer and Leslie Howard. There's a 1922 silent version with Norma Talmadge but I haven't seen it....

Re: WHAT MUSICALS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

I have just watched" Hit The Deck (1955) ", a lively song and dance show featuring Jane Powell, Debbie Reynolds, Ann Miller, Tony Martin, Vic Damone, Russ Tamblyn. A lively story about three sailors being pursued by an inept shore patrol. Also in the film was Kay Armen who played the mothe...

Re: Love At Last

It would seem that I have started an interesting topic. I am especially impressed by the words of Klondike and Jack Farrell, both of whom have experienced love at first sight, and also have long and happy marriages. I lost my wife on 30 Nov 2008. At her funeral on 4 Dec 2008 my son and my elder daug...

Love At Last

Love At Last We have seen that, against the odds some Film Stars do actually get it right the first time, and marry for life. Is it possible that some will eventually get it right and stay married for a long time. Here are some who did get it right eventually. Jane Powel l Five times married. Her f...

Re: WHAT MUSICALS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

Films That Make Me Weep Guaranteed to make me weep is to see a woman die in the arms of her husband. By coincidence over the last couple of weeks I have watched Helen Hayes die in the arms of Gary Cooper Elizabeth Taylor die in the arms of Van Johnson Nelson Eddy die in the arms of Jeanette MacDona...

Re: They Were Married Once

Uncle Stevie, Thank you for your interest. As you know, Deanna is also one of my favourites, and I know that her third marriage lasted. However, because she was married three times, she is ineligible for inclusion in a list of actresses who were married only once. Watch out for a new list which I ma...

They Were Married Once

They Were Married Once Sometimes it seems that actresses just live to collect husbands. But not all joined the “marriage-go-round”. Here are some who didn`t. ANN BLYTH Probably my favourite. Married at age 25 on 27 June 1953, had five children and was widowed on 12 May 2007. About 6 weeks short of ...

According to Edgar Rice Burroughs, Tarzan was taught to speak English by a Frenchman, but somehow in the movies he lost his French accent.

Re: It Happened In Brooklyn

Kathryn Grayson is one of my favourites (I have all her movies). The relaxed version of "la ci darem la mano” with Frank Sinatra shows both her versatility and Frank`s. Follow this up with her “Bell Song”, add a gentle version of the eternal triangle and this becomes a good movie.

Re: WHAT MUSICALS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

Yes! Moirafinnie, I have bought from scootersmoviesshop and have had no problems. I have also researched the availability of Deception and put it on the list for my next purchase, which, if my willpower holds out, will not be until November.
