John:

The one with Kevin McCarthy..I should have been more specific. I must say if those pods didn't represent horror...nothing does
But we could call it a sci/fi horror flick and cover both bases.
Kinda like The Thing from Outer Space.

Was there a particular time frame for the 20 they selected?

Would the '60's Invasion of the Bodysnatchers not fit in?
IMHO this little jewel should be on ALL lists of scary movies.

I noticed this thread from just a while back...seems like a good one. There are many fine mini-series to mention. Leave us not forget Sir Alec Guiness as George Smiley in "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy". Not long ago I checked out the DVD from the library and enjoyed it as much as I did whe...

My mother had to endure repeated plays of Buddy Holly. Maybe I should have been more considerate. Talk about payback! As a senior citizen now I have to endure rap music at far greater volume levels. God not only has a sense of humor..he is also patient in passing out these get evens.

I have never thought of Dr. Strangelove as anything but high comedy. But your point, ChiO, is well taken. What story underpinning could be more horrific than nuclear war? Not withstanding, I will adopt cinemalover's original question as my thought on the topic...can comedy and horror co-exist? I wou...

Perhaps some of the posts here have helped me to understand what may have caused Rosemary's star to ascend no higher than it did. I have always felt that "Red Garters" was not nearly the vehicle needed to increase her star power. "Red Garters" and the casting of Rosemary therein,...

Anbody Home?

I am a new member and was motivated to join when I saw so many of my favorite TCM posters here at the Oasis.
I didn't look closely at the post dates.....I joined because this place looked "quieter"...but hope it ain't TOO quiet, LOL.
Anyway it is good to be here and hello to all

Rocky Mountain

Met Lee Marvin in Early 70's

Lee was in a department store in tucson to purchase swin trunks on his way to Rocky Point to do some fishing. We struck up a conversation and he was every bit as laid back as you would expect. We all got a huge laugh when the clerk ringing up his purchase said "thank you Mr. Marvin." Lee q...
