Re: Marlene Dietrich

Then there's Fritz Lang 's comments years after their fling: " She wears three layers of make-up. One for the stage, one for the street, and one to go to bed with." "She had terrible breasts." As the author rightfully states parenthetically thereafter, "Never mind the incom...

Re: Actors you watch, no matter what the film is about

I want to add Peter Lorre to my list, I find it difficult to watch anyone else when he is on the screen. Have you seen "The Lost One"? Great film. Written, directed and starring himself. @kingme: I can understand you. You have made your decision, you have your principles and you stick to ...

Re: Marlene Dietrich

Libertine, Marlene Dietrich and Rita Hayworth were friends for life. They are often seen together & Marlene was an "unofficial mentor" to Rita. Here's some photos from my collection ... They have dinner together, Marlene often at her home quite often and Orson Welles (Rita's 2nd Husba...

Re: Marlene Dietrich

I can't remember what Maria Riva had to say about Gabin, I realise my view is probably Donald Spoto's view on the matter. Certainly he mattered a great deal to her, perhaps more than the others but in the end I think he saw the writing on the cards and perhaps too it was fun whilst it lasted but it...

Re: Marlene Dietrich

Don't you think she loved Gabin most of all, just because it was him who left her in the end? He said Fine, and that was it. He never wanted to see her again, and that was what happened. I think, for her, in her mind, the relationship stayed "perfect", just because it ended one-sided...

Re: Tallulah Bankhead

I love her in the Devil and The Deep . She didn't much like Hollywood at first did she? I haven't watched Lifeboat yet, I'm looking forward to that one. Did she leave many radio recordings? You might be able to download them at the archive. Lifeboat is great. It's just set in that lifeboat for such...

Re: Marlene Dietrich

It was me who read the Donald Spoto book, I felt he didn't really like her, I don't think she would have cared, I felt that he was judging her life by his own standards. I have Maria's book, I haven't read it in a long time but I sometimes dip into it, not only does Maria recount her mother's affai...

Re: Actors you watch, no matter what the film is about

Most of us have really long lists. We're quite some movie buffs for sure! Btw, seeing your list chaplinfan, I noticed I forgot Sophia Loren.

Re: Arnold Schwarzenegger - Possible Comeback

This thread is some months old, and some "things" have happened since then, but I am not sure if he's going to have any kind of comeback in the movies soon. I do not think he'll retire though. He'll be back. He's driven and ambiguous.

Lombard, Davies, Colbert, Russell, Monroe for the women.
Grant, Price (I am serious here) and Laurel & Hardy for the men.

Re: Marlene Dietrich

I call myself a Dietrich fan. She is a complex woman. I hate and like her at the same time. She was a b****, let's face it. She must have been the most promiscuous person in Hollywood ever. Having several affairs at the same time. Must say though, I am impressed by her time management. She also, and...

Re: Tallulah Bankhead

I love Tallu! A great wit, mostly at her own expense, I think she gets a bum rap too, as an actress - I mean, who wouldn't want to have seen her originating the role of Sabina in The Skin of Our Teeth or as Regina Giddens? Oh, yes, I would give a lot to see, or at least hear, a recording of her doi...
