I was very interested in seeing this film because of its noteriety. I proabaly need to see it again to properly rate it, it certainly is interesting. With the mixture of silent and talk, it reminded me somewhat of The Jazz Singer. I would assume that a lot of the film is lost to censor's scissors be...

The Oscar (1966)
On June 16th at 11pm EST TCM will be showing The Oscar :D with Tony Bennett :o , Elke Sommer and Stephen Boyd. Bill Maher has chosen this movie as a guest programmer: I wonder if he did so he could actually see it! I have been wanting to see this ever since I found out about it through my Golden Tur...

Leonard Bernstein's "On The Waterfront" music??
One of the great musical scores in my opinion is also used at least at the end of "The Screaming Mimi". I was tuning in at the end of the film, but I was so surpised! What other movie did Bernstein score? :?: Well, he didn't! Mischa Balenikoff-a "music advisor" :!: used t...

Film Noirs
Ok, here we go-but I don't think I can name 15! Perhaps some of these might not be film noir in some eyes! 1. Ace in the Hole 2. Kiss Me Deadly 3. Angel Face 4. Laura 5. Thunder Road 6. Brute Force 7. Something Wild 8. Suddenly 9. Whirlpool 10. Sweet Smell of Success 11. Manchurian Candidate 12. Big...

The Major and the Minor
I am happy to announce that Billy Wilder's first movie as director is being shown starting at 10:30 Central Time. I think today was its debut release on DVD also. Ginger Rogers masquerades as a little girl to pay less for a train ticket and ends up in a millitary academy. I read a good article about...

Helen Mirren
Just was at Barnes and Noble and I saw an autobiography of Helen. Had a nice page about this movie. She certainly was a versatile actress-film, television and screen. I definitely am going to turn the VCR on tonight!

Age of Consent
This movie is seems very interesting. Should I see it? James Mason (pre Mandingo, post Lolita and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea) and Helen Mirren (The Queen, etc.)? Any opinions? As long as I'm at it, how about Boxcar Bertha , directed by Roger Corman? What do you all think about TCM showing more adu...

Champion
Certainly worth watching if you are a Kirk Douglas fan. I think this was the first film were he played someone that was a jerk. Haven't seen "Young Man With A Horn", where he might be one of those too. I have this on DVD, but it is not made by one of the obvious companies.

DVD Cover Avatar?
I would like to use as my Avatar the picture from the front of my Criterion Collection DVD for "Ace In The Hole". Any suggestions on how I can get that to you? Otherwise, I'd like to try to get a Kirk Douglas or Jan Sterling one.

The Cid!
I have to say that I certainly admire Charlton Heston for his films. Ben Hur certainly is one of my favorite films. Others I have seen that I liked are The Greatest Show on Earth and El Cid but I think the film is rather long. Miklos Rosza's music is exquisite, as always. Heston's voice is certainly...

Re: WHAT SILENTS & PRE-CODES HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
I taped the "Forbidden Hollywood II" movies that were on TCM and just finished "Three On A Match" and am starting Ruth Chatterton in "Female". I am working on finishing reading a biography of Bette Davis and seeing her in this film is very instructive. She is only in a ...
