Re: BBC Suggestions

Me too, I've never watched any other version of Persuasion and I don't think I will ever watch any other version of P & P. I've never watched any other version of Jane Eyre than the Timothy Dalton/ Zelah Clarke version from the early 80s, they are Jane and Rochester. I'm currently watching Littl...

Re: To Dream of Dogs

Does Lily go off lead Wendy? Lara runs like the clappers when she's off and she's really fast, very good at dodging and diving, she's very much got the poodle legs. She too gets miffed if she doesn't see anyone on her walks, she thinks everyone she meets wants to know her and her instant reaction is...

Re: The Domestic CAT: Feline at its finest!

What a cute kitty. In my experience cats are just as likely to behave like that in the early hours as during the day.

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

It made me smile that they renamed Vile Bodies to Bright Young Things, perhaps they thought that the later title might bring people to the film who were expecting a gruesome whodunit or horror movie. I haven't seen it though and I must. Thank you for welcoming me back, I'm glad to be back, I've not ...

Re: BBC Suggestions

Downton has started again, I'm not going to give any plot lines away but it's that time of year again.

I haven't managed to watch films but I have found time to watch 4 series of Mad Men and 2 series of Homeland. I love Homeland, I love Damian Lewis :D

Re: To Dream of Dogs

It's been a while since I talked about Lara. She was spayed in August, was bouncing around again within 3 days but used the intervening time to make me feel very sorry for her and made sure that she had plenty of love and cuddles. The only thing I've noticed since she had the op is that her appetite...

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

I haven't watched very many movies over the school holidays, I managed Dead End , with Libby's friend giggling because I was watching a black and white movie. I like Sylvia Sidney, she broke out of the mould that some of the 30s actresses were shoehorned into, she's gamine but tough too and I loved ...

Re: CHARLES BOYER

He's my favourite too, I never get bored of watching his movies and he does have a knack of getting away with scenes in movies that would look silly when acted by anyone else. I absolutely adore him, I can't understand why he doesn't come further up in the ranks of Hollywood stardom, I love the fact...

Re: David Frost has died

This was a real shock to read about. He was only on the television a few weeks ago and he had so much in the pipeline. He's gone before his time and he was truly an icon.

Re: WHAT SILENTS & PRE-CODES HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

Welcome Ceil, there are lots of silent movie lovers here. I haven't got through the entire Les Vampires set yet, but I intend to. I watched a charming precode The Sin of Nora Moran with Zita Johann, Zita plays a nice girl that ends up misused and on the wrong side of the tracks and as the film start...

Re: Foreign film poll

When I came across a country who's films I liked I added more to my rental list, which had interesting consequences, I really discovered world cinema blindly, without and knowledge which led to some interesting discoveries, like Realm of the Senses, I wasn't ready for that one. Overall I enjoyed dis...

Re: What are you reading?

I've listened to Sebastian Faulks The Girl and the Lion D'or and Robert Harris's Fatherland and now I'm listening to The Colour Purple, the 6 week school break approaches and I'm going to have to forgo the classic literature books that I love in place of books that can be easily dipped into, listeni...

Re: Murray wins Wimbledon after 77-yr wait

I think you have to go many generations to erase Thatcher's legacy in Scotland. I don't see independence as financially viable, it comes down to whether people are going to vote with their national pride or with the eye on economics. it's going to be a tangle deunifying ourselves if it happens.

Re: The Royals!

I found it so much easier to name a girl, we both like traditional names, I'd have loved Alexandra just as much as Elizabeth, naming a boy is much harder work, I think because Joe was our second and all my friends had boys with traditional names and we didn't want to copy, Joe was the only name we l...
