Re: Shirley Temple RIP
A friend of mine has been using AI to create images of Shirley Temple in various situations throughout the years. Some are a bit disturbing. The whole AI art thing is disturbing in and of itself, to me.

Re: DVD Netflix
Hopefully they do a massive sale dump and offer these to people. I'm sure a lot of them are scratched and terribly damaged, but it's still a huge trove of films that aren't always easy to find these days (some are out of print and can't be purchased new anymore).
Re: Spam
I have re-enabled registration this morning, and turned on Google reCAPTCHA as our anti-spam measure. This is invisible to the user (no clicking "I am human" boxes or anything when registering), but apparently is the most effective deterrent out there for spammers. I am not convinced but w...

Re: I Just Watched...
I haven't seen the Garner film, sorry. But based on what I just read (that it became the basis for the Rockford Files) I would say it's probably better. The only previous Marlowe material I've seen is The Big Sleep.

Re: I Just Watched...
Not a classic film, but a classic character...Sunday night we watched Marlowe , starring Liam Neeson in the title role as a former cop turned private detective investigating a disappearance. Many twists and turns along the way, with a good cast and very good capture of the time period (1940s). Howev...
Re: Spam
What is captcha? I don't see any spam. Or am I not recognizing it? Puzzlement! Captcha is what they call the code you have to enter when you register on many websites. It's usually images that form words or letters, or sometimes it tells you to pick the squares with a specific item in the picture (...
Re: Spam
The board should now be fully encrypted with SSL. This will do little to affect spammers, but does add a layer of security. I had turned it off a while back due to some issues with the site (which ended up having nothing to do with that) and never bothered to re-enable it. I figured this was as good...

Re: Favorite Decade In Film Is...
I love the 30s. King Kong, The Thin Man, all those farces. They’re just fun. The code hadn’t quite kicked in fully yet so the gangster dramas had a harder edge to them than later on. Really it’s hard to choose one decade. I often tell people I like the Cary Grant era, which covers the 30s to the 60s...
Re: Spam
The captcha is random, but apparently the one we have is easily figured out. I’m looking at other options. For now I’m keeping it locked for a few days. We will not do anything with texting confirmation, no worries. As above, if someone reaches out to you I will manually set up an account. Short ter...
Re: Spam
I also blocked China. I'd blocked Russia a long time ago. One of our hosting providers, Cloudflare, also offer a new bot protection that I turned on (free, introduced it late last year and I didn't know).
Re: Spam
Deleted all of the new accounts and threads. Now I am disabling registration for the time being. ALL: If you have someone who wants to join, try to find out what username they want and I will just manually set it up, even with locked registration. There shouldn't be too many of those for me to handl...
Spam
Due to the large number of spam posts the past few days, I have done two things. First, I banned/deleted all the accounts created since April 3 (I perused the list first to ensure I didn't snag any actual contributing members!) Second, I have changed the registration requirements and CAPTCHA setting...

Re: What are you listening to?
Tom Waits varies for me from brilliant to unlistenable; sometimes on the same album. Overall I love his stuff, particularly the weirder more "recent" work after his voice blew out.

Re: Stop Making Sense (1984)
See that's the thing though...I'm not a huge Talking Heads fan either, but the show is absolutely captivating. And of course I haven't seen EVERY concert film. I have, however, seen the majority of the best known ones, including all of these on this Rolling Stone article: https://www.rollings...
