Re: Historic Hollywood Sites
In the photo looking toward Hollywood you can see the freeways starting to cut a swathe through the neighborhoods.

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
I caught up with THE DESCENDANTS last week and it was every bit as entertaining as I had heard. No small feat considering the cast spends half of the films running time trekking back and forth to the hospital where their wife and mother lies in a coma. It's an emotional roller coaster but it is neve...

Re: Raoul Walsh
Originally, Cagney wasn't too keen on making WHITE HEAT and I believed turned it down as being a B movie pot-boiler - which is exactly what the film is. But once the powers-to-be convinced Cagney that he needed this role, Jimmy said, "Fine, but we make this guy an over-the-top, psychotic head c...

Re: A Face In The Crowd
They always mention comics like Milton Berle and Jackie Gleason as being the first big stars of early television, but for a time no one was bigger than Arthur Godfrey. He had a quiet, unassuming demeanor that allowed him to be welcomed into everyone's living room. He was everyone's favorite Uncle. S...

Regardless of one's comedy tastes, nobody plays a jackass better than Will Ferrell.

I'm looking at her hair. It's more flowing and youthful.mongoII wrote:Unfortunately the image didn't come with a date. I'd say late 1940's early '50's. She did look fine.
I'd say this is her MGM years - pre-war Hawaii.

Re: Follow The Fleet over or underrated
Of all of the film series to have come out of Hollywood I find the Astaire-Rogers series to be the most calculated in regard to their commercial feasibility. Two templates appeared at the very beginning that would dictate how their films would be produced throughout the Thirties. From their accident...

And that is what makes it one of their most romantic movies they made together.....(along with SWINGTIME).

Gee.....I've never used pity towards a filmmaker before in order to get through a comedy.
I should try that on Adam Sandler.

They've been talking this up on other blog sites and I've yet to read about any real complaints about the quality.....just the usual nit-picking here and there. I have the British Universal set and these copies sound similar to that. If you've been waiting for L&H on Region 1 this is the set to ...

Re: What's Up Doc - a homage to how many?
It's very British comedy. Think Python in any of their costumed sketches (The Spanish Inquisition...etc).
Rowan Atkinson grew up in that milieu. Which is why I cannot see Ryan O'Neal engaging in that type of frantic
verbal jousting if that indeed was what the pilot was aiming for.

Re: What's Up Doc - a homage to how many?
Nothing came of it.....just another failed pilot. And it looks like you were one of the few to had actually seen it. In which case IMDb needs you to preserve your memory online as it seems only one other person has chimed in. I say hold out for top dollar.... I did read that some think it was an att...
