Re: Laramie continues to impress me

I know a group of people on yahoo group who would strongly argue that Laramie is the best western TV series ever made. They give it cult status. I know its one of my favourites, terrific guest stars and very strong and unusual stories and the two lead actors were great. Dan Duryea, Charles Bronson, ...

Re: FORT APACHE

Paula Thank you for all those stills, they are truly breathtaking. As you say those pictures are artistry. Something that did strike me and maybe its because most of the scenes were done in one or two takes, is that what we are seeing is a glimpse of someone else's world rather than a play. I mean w...

Re: John Wayne, Lest We Forget

Thanks for posting the interview that is there. Its rather nice hearing from someone who wrote about Wayne and actually liked him. Didn't overlook the bad bits but was not making a "statement". I enjoyed the book and found it very easy going to read, with for once interviews with people wh...

Re: Westerns

I think they used to show that on Australian TV on Saturday afternoons when we used to get alot of US Westerns. Is that the one where they had two charcaters playing relatives at different times in the west, some modern, some old time. It had two well know n western character actors who always playe...

Re: *CANDIDS*

I have seen that picture of the group before and its a favourite. It must have been taken during They were Expendable. I guess when there is the occassional question about John Wayne's height which sometimes happens around the Internet comes up, I guess that answers it as very tall.

Re: Hard done by Bill Hawkes Wagon Train

Over the last couple of years I have bought the wagon train series, and despite fifties production values (fifties values) sometimes, the stories and the guest stars were fabulous, everything from tragedy to high drama and some comedy. All in all I think Bill Hawkes was my favourite. I know Flint Mc...

They are beautiful Paula. I'm sure its no coincidence that so many of those images show Ben's beautiful smile.

Re: The Horse Soldiers: 2nd Tier Ford?

This film is one of my guilty pleasures. It is the first film I recognised as John Ford. Saturday afternoon movies when colour TV came to Australia my father and I watched it. And it had so many moments that as the critics like to say were pure Fordian. form the opening which I think is one of the b...

Re: FORT APACHE

Paula I am not a western rider I ride what Americans call English so things are a bit different for me but here goes. Good riders have what in English we call an independent seat which means you move with the horse in perfect balance no matter what it does, without gripping with your backside, thigh...

Re: FORT APACHE

Paula I knew you would find Ben no matter how many moustaches they put on him!!!! I am not sure about the regulations of the two horses being led before falls. Probably safety to keep them straight and hoping the audience would not notice. I think Fort Apache was made about the period when they were...

Re: She Wore a Yellow Ribbon

Paula I'm looking forward to Fort Apache. That is such a beautiful film. How many times are you finding Ben doublin'? :D April Captain Brittles cabin looks the same as the film, as does Goulding's house which has a museum inside. The theatre is just a screen, projector and chairs and they show a dif...

Re: John Ford

I found this in an Australian newspaper where someone is making a thriller film out in the desert. I am not to sure if its an homage or a theft butimitation sure is the sincerest form of flattery. Today, the sadistic serial killer at the heart of Wolf Creek is preparing to bump off an elderly couple...
