Ford was big on dance scenes (as I'm sure you know.) Nearly all of his westerns had them. They were a real sense of community for him. I always liked the dance scene in "My Darling Clementine." Fonda couldn't look more uncomfortable but it's what he'll do for Clementine. What a guy!

This would have been an interesting book to read. Being from the Baltimore area this game has a legendary and historic place in our history. It was the game that put the NFL on the map. It may not have been the greatest game literally ever played but as it was the first overtime championship game an...

This film is so steeped in the Cavalry tradition. One of my favorite scenes is when Fonda comes to Bond's quarters to take his daughter home. He pulls rank on Agar and Bond dresses down Fonda on the proper conduct he should show as Fonda is in his home. The scene is very methodical, in its way polit...

Like John I'm more a fan of his radio and TV work. In those formats I thought he was a riot. I've seen 'To Be or Not To Be" and "George Washington...." while enjoyable I didn't think they were great. Maybe by radio and TV time he had his character worked out. He certainly was ldeally ...

Me too. I can't quite explain it either. Maybe it is that WE are not in everything over there. We each had our own favorites but there was more to cross into. Maybe it's becasue we are here and here is where we now talk to our favorite people. Maybe this is the more interesting place to talk. I don'...

"Khartoum" also has the intro music. If memory serves me also "The Alamo" with John Wayne, "Ben Hur". I think they went primarily with epic pictures. That would certainly account for Lean's influence.

Keaton is my favorite. For me there is a certain shyness to him in addition to him being flat out funny. Sometimes it is that "stone face" that adds to his humor. He is a gifted athlete as well that makes his comedy graceful and natural. Chaplin is graceful as well but it seems too choreog...

Like Jon, I live in the Baltimore area. The Senator is a great theater to watch a movie. The lobby area still has that old theater look to it . It's decorated with movie posters. The theater itself has one huge screen. It does have a modern sound system but lovely art-deco type lights and drapes. It...

One that may be coming around is "Becket" with Peter O'Toole and Richard Burton. It played here in Baltimore this past weekend. I didn't get to go but wanted anyone who might be interested to know that it's out there. It has been restored.

Also born on April 23: Writer, cinematographer, producer, director - Ronald Neame http://www.genarians.com/images/Neame%20pic%2022.jpg I watched "Tunes of Glory" last week and there was an interview with Neame from a couple of years ago. It was quite interesting and he seemed like a reall...

Re: Western lover

Bonanza was never the same without Pernell Roberts. What was it about westerns on TV that never allowed the stars to have more than one set of clothes? I'm speaking mainly of "Bonanza" and "Gunsmoke." The Cartwrights owned most of Nevada but they couldn't get another pair of pan...

Just got to watch it. Would have enjoyed more scenes with Mitchum and Douglas. Mitchum was very good. As long as I've been watching movies I don't know much about Greer. Lovely and no good all at the same time. Rhonda Fleming's part was almost too small to have noticed. But then how can you not noti...

I think it's one of Gable's top performances. Good solid acting from everyone.

What I find so wonderful about Audrey is her poise. It's not just her being a princess it is her "presence" in the movie. She seems so comfortable in everything. She's just a delight from beginning to end.

Best selection for "Essentials" so far this year.
