Re: Alexis Smith

Lovely. Thank you so much, Vienna, for coming back to share your memories of the concert. You'll note that when this video comes up on YouTube, there is also a selection on the side for other videos of that same event. Too bad it's amateur video, but it's all we've got, I guess. I never heard of any...

Re: 5 Against the House (1955)

Interesting film. Note scene where Guy Madison enters Kim Novak’s dressing room, and we see him in the doorway, framed under her leg in the foreground, a provocative shot that pre-dates the famous Anne Bancroft and Dustin Hoffman shot in “The Graduate” (1967) by 12 years. I wonder if this is where t...

Re: Alexis Smith

Vienna, there's a video of Alexis performing "Cocotte" on YouTube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-vC2wPV_v0&list=UU5vFxiMxrAHJ7n1GBIwQ65g&index=7&feature=plcp I understand this was a one-night charity performance. I think in 1989 (the CD came out in 1990), which would ma...

Re: Stallion Road

Moira, liked your post on "Stallion Road", especially that you noted the masculine-femine aspects of the characters. This is what most intrigued me about the movie, which to me was a positive thing. I'll get around to blogging about it sometime or other, but pleased to see others enjoy thi...

Re: Stallion Road

I agree Zachary Scott is very good in this movie, and he also has some of the best lines. Ronald Reagan's character is very likeable, but Scott's charachter has an edge that makes him more interesting. Your heart breaks for him that first time he sees a romance beginning between Alexis Smith and Rea...

Re: Stallion Road

I like the little girl who, when asked by Zachary Scott why a child her age is out riding a horse at night and in bad weather -- she replies, "The horse doesn't know how old I am."

That just about makes sense. Just. So, why is my right coat sleeve covered in clam dip?

Re: Alexis Smith

Ah, Charliechaplinfan, I never read the book, but I'd like to. I'll have to find it one of these days. I'm glad you'll have a chance to see those films soon. I'd love to know what you think after you see them.

Re: Alexis Smith

Thank you, kingrat. I wondered to whom that plastic rain hoodie belonged. Tres chic. The moment I saw it, I knew I was out-classed. Me and my shabby sable. In which Thelma Ritter is now boarding some bus. By the way, Arthur Treacher keeps walking around in butler's outfit with a tray of champagne gl...

Re: Alexis Smith

Thank you, KingMe. This seems like a very nice group, only I think Thelma Ritter is walking off with my sable coat. "The Constant Nymph" is surely an extraordinary film, good performances all around. Joan Fontaine was terrific as the spirited young girl. As I've written elsewhere, one of m...

Re: Alexis Smith

Thank you, CharlieChaplinFan. I agree, she was splendid in "Constant Nymph". She credited Edmund Goulding as being one of the directors from whom she learned the most. I hope you can see "Dive Bomber" and "Montana" sometime, though her role in the former is very brief. ...
