I messed up and missed this one too - except for the last 10 minutes. What I saw looked really good - a guy was on his way to the electric chair and all the expressionist film angles and shadowing that Dewey was raving about in Stranger on the Third Floor were on display in this climactic scene of t...

Lynn - thanks for the update about BenHowell - I was wondering about him. The only thing I don't miss about Ben is seeing the sight of Johnny Eck creeping up on us.

I visit the TCM boards, as well as post here, and wish the activity level here was a little more brisk - maybe in time. My hunch is that the people here, being generally bright and knowledgeable, perhaps spend less time on the internet, especially over the weekends, than those over at the TCM boards...

Just when you think we've gotten other boardmembers tastes in films fairly established, it can still be possible to have a "what the ??!!' reaction to a statement. Arkadin - I liked your top 25 list, and can agree with you heartily about Colonel Blimp, but I Walked with a Zombie over Casablanca...

Yeah - I've noticed the problems today; either very slow or cannot access the boards at all.

Well, the outcome of this is that at least one of my favorite films will make it to the next round. I cast my vote for: Les Enfants du Paradis JohnM had earlier said he voted for Sunrise as it was the more simple film, and at first I thought I would also go in that direction, but Les Enfants is just...

Here's another cute promo - has anyone seen this before? I've had TCM since October 2000 and don't recall this.

I just stumbled across this on Youtube and thought I'd post it.

Les Enfants du Paradis

Moraldo posted a great critique above, so I will just add a clip. When I first watched this movie back in the 1970's, it was in a funky old revival house with bean bags on the floor in front and folding chairs behind, and the film started and I could barely read the washed out subtitles. I thought I...

I haven't made up my mind yet, but am close - Sunrise is my favorite silent film, and Les Enfants du Paradis is my favorite foreign film. To help myself decide, and for the interest of others who may not be familiar with these films, I would like to post a couple critiques and clips. This was taken ...

I have this one circled in my Now Playing guide to record & watch, as well as Star Witness with Walter Huston which airs right before. I'm not sure I've seen either one of these, but I sometimes forget the movies I've seen untill I watch my recording and have that "Oh I've seen this before&...

A trivial issue - my TCM mug

I love my TCM mug - it sits on my desk and holds my pencils & pens and proclaims to all that I am a TCM junkie. I have one of the green ones, not the ugly orange older one they used to sell. I bought it for myself, it was not a gift. Anyone else here have a mug? do you use it for coffee? was it ...

This is the toughest pair-up for me as I adore both, they are both in my top 5 films, and they are both masterpieces. For now, I am going to hold off voting, as I might consider posting critiques for both films.

Well, I know this is only for fun and should be taken in the spirit of it's only a game and there are no losers, but through the luck of the draw, I can see that my five favorite films have no way of making the first cut. I will try and keep up my spirits by asking that those folks who have not ever...
