Re: TCM -- Anti-copying Code?

markfp, Philips branded DVD recorders and HDD/DVD recorders (manufactured under license by Funai) exited the US market in 2008. My two Philips HDD/DVD recorders are the 3575 (from 2007) and the 3576 (from 2008), both manufactured by Funai. My 3576 is currently my most heavily used HDD/DVD recorder. ...

Re: TCM -- Anti-copying Code?

My experience is similar to that of markfp, never a problem recording TCM. Since September 2005 I've recorded around 6,000 DVDs, most of them TCM programming recorded with my many Panasonic, Magnavox and Philips recorders. Beginning in December 2009 I transitioned from TCM SD to TCM HD. Currently, I...

Re: HOME RECORDING TO DVD

My last post in this thread was originally submitted in July 2009 and updated in September 2009. It’s time for an update. I own four Magnavox 2160 HDD/DVD recorders, three of the original 2160 models manufactured in 2008 and one 2160 “A” version manufactured in 2009. All of these are outstanding pro...

$190.99? What about $9.98? I purchased the two disc Collector's Version (currently $10.99) in December 2007.

Re: GORT; KLAATU BARRADA NICKTU

Speaking of lookalikes, we have a nickname for the Zenith DTT901 Coupon Eligible Converter Box (for TV reception with an antenna). The nickname is "GORT" because the front panel LED reminds one of the light that appears when Gort's visor is opened just before the ray zaps and disintegrates...

Re: Leonard Maltin's CLASSIC MOVIE GUIDE

Leonard Maltin's original "everything" guides carry the title Leonard Maltin's (year) Movie & Video Guide . I have the 1996 and 2001 standard editions that have small print. The 2001 edition has lighter ink, very hard to read without reading glasses. The 1996 edition has darker print. ...

Re: General announcement to the SSO membership

Once while I was moving I wondered where to put the remote where it wouldn't be damaged and I could find it easily.

After settling in I searched for about a month without finding it. Then one day I was out driving and had to stop suddenly. The remote slid out from under the driver's seat.

What's this? At our house in Portland Oregon it's 105 in the shade on the east side of the house. Since it's only 3:30 p.m. it will go higher. Portland's current "official" temperature is 102 at PDX. It's cooler out there along the Columbia River. It's expected to be even warmer for the ne...

J&R Music and Computer World has been offering "refurbished" Magnavox HDD/DVD recorders at attractive prices. The 2080, an 80 GB model first offered for sale in 2007, has been priced at $129.99. The 2160, a 160 GB model first offered for sale in 2008, has been priced at $159.99. I alre...

Re: HOME RECORDING TO DVD

In several earlier posts in this thread I've mentioned and recommended the Philips 3575/3576 and Magnavox 2080/2160 HDD/DVD recorders. I own and use each of these models. The Magnavox 2160 is the only one of these models that is currently available in the USA. The 2160 is sold through walmart.com. T...

For those interested in hard drive/DVD recorders I have updated and revised the information in my 20 December 2008 post.

One poster at the AVS Forum wrote that Panasonic advised him that their line of DVD recorders/combo recorders is being discontinued.

The Philips DVDR3576H Hard Drive/DVD recorder mentioned in my 12/20/08 post is listed as "out of stock" at walmart.com, but may be found at a limited number of Sam's Club and Walmart stores. A few of the Philips models may be found on the secondary market, often with inflated prices. The M...
