Re: Murray wins Wimbledon after 77-yr wait

Do you think the SNP will have their way? Maybe I'm too English or too practical or am listening to the wrong news reports but do you really think when it comes down to it that Scotland will want to separate itself from the rest of the Union? It just feels like to me it's being done for patriotic re...

Re: What are you reading?

Ah Masha, I still respect you a great deal for your skill with languages. I think it must be easier to learn when exposed to a language and it is one area which the British education system lets us down on. I watch lots of foreign movies, especially French ones but I'm not very much wiser for it.

Re: To Dream of Dogs

They are persistent little creatures, we gave up too, it's too much when we wake up to find she's got in bed with us, it doesn't happen often but what can you do? I'm much better at order with children, I'm way too soft with animals.

Re: Foreign film poll

How difficult, I realised I adore German silent cinema too and Lubitsch, Ophuls and various directors but I'm going with my original three.

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

Hi Alison. One of the great mysteries of life...is Hollywood, and what specifically makes an actor/actress, a M ovie S tar. I still don't know the answer to that question, I guess now I never will, I don't know distinction, is it just grades of being a star? Dana Andrews was a movie star but I see ...

Re: The Royals!

I keep checking the news headlines, it's one news item I'd like to find out about firsthand. I do feel quite sorry for her, I remember the phone ringing every day when I was expecting my two, they were both two weeks late and everyday the phone rang to check on progress, each and every relative. I f...

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

I'd agree with your second rung tier assessment although what put them there I don't know. Perhaps they weren't marketed as pin ups like Gable and Flynn, maybe they looked just a bit more ordinary because even though both men are handsome they aren't as catch your breath handsome as Gable and Flynn....

Re: Foreign film poll

I love foreign movies Masha but my preference is for the work of Mizoguchi and Naruse and Italian neo realistic films and the Italian comedies made from the 40s to the 60s with odd exceptions outside that era. Then it's Japanese and French cinema, I'm also quite a fan of early Swedish cinema and Ing...

Re: What are you reading?

I tried both French and German at school, I found German by far the easier but I didn't keep up with it. I'm naturally academic but not as much when it comes to languages, I do find them quite a struggle, so anyone who has mastered another language other than their own has my greatest respect. I won...

Re: To Dream of Dogs

Lara loves having her belly tickled, in fact that's why Chris really wanted a girl dog because he'd always known dogs to offer their belly and he grew up with boy dogs. He wanted to see if girls were any different, she's the biggest belly dog of all.

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

Ask this lady, not handsome enough, are you kidding, he was handsome in a very dark way, you didn't know what side he was on, he suggested danger. He wasn't lacking on charm for this lady.

Re: What are you reading?

I don't think I could sympathise then, heavily pregnant with all the ensuing emotions but I really can't sympathise with a woman who leaves her son and cannot love her daughter with Vronsky. I know that child is a representation of what is wrong between them and it's why she can't love her but I don...

Re: The Royals!

I was reading one of the lower brow newspapers whilst in the hairdressers last week. They were offering a free bet to every reader, the money is on a girl called Alexandra, but if a boy the money's on George. My mother in law seems to think Kate has let it slip that it is a girl and some wag has wri...

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

I'm glad you've watched Inferno Theresa, it does kind of hit between the eyes. I'm really liking Dana Andrews and I ask myself, why is he not up there in the top rung of stars who are known and talked about, it took me a few years of watching to discover him myself. The OxBow Incident I'm going to h...

Re: What are you reading?

If I ever try to learn another language I'll remember the technique. I gave in and looked, Jason Robards Jnr, that is strange casting, such a big name book and much as I like his work it perhaps needed a bigger named actor. Jennifer Jones is right as Nicole although perhaps a little too old, they wo...
