Thank you, vallo. I've been a member of the TCM boards since 2001 and I guess old habits die hard. I've had a good time of it for most of those years, especially with many of the members I came in contact with. It was always my pleasure to discuss and share my knowledge of the movies and the stars a...

Robert Siodmak's classic thriller "The Killers", along with "Criss Cross" are two of his best pieces of work, proof positive that crime dramas could rise above the mundane and the clichéd. Not many films, no matter how great they may be, open with such a hook as "The Killers...

I was pleasantly surprised when I watched the 1964 version of the movie.
I liked it and especially the performances. Clu Gulager was so good that I hated his guts.
However, it's the original compelling noir version that gets my vote.

Getting away from Dracula and Frankenstein, a Hammer film that gave me the willys was "The Man Who Could Cheat Death" (1959) with Anton Diffring. Also "The Mummy" with Christopher Lee. The way that bandaged fiend walked around was uncanny. I saw the midnight premier of Hammers &q...

I have to come to the defense of Anne Revere who plays Gregory Peck's mother. As usual her acting was impeccible, to say the least.
Dean Sockwell, June Havoc, and Roy Roberts also did nicely in their roles.

Very interesting analysis, Dewey. I never thought of it that way.
I must also make mention of character actress Margaret Wycherly who played Cagney's Ma to the hilt. It was another wonderful performance ignored by the Academy, just as Cagney's was.

"Pickup on South Street" (1953)

Directed by Samuel Fuller, who also wrote the screenplay, "Pickup on South Street" is a tough, brutal, well made film about a pickpocket (Richard Widmark) who inadvertently aquires top-secret microfilm and becomes a target for espionage agents. Also involved are Jean Peters as a tough broa...

"White Heat" (1949)

The old saying, "They don't make 'em like they used to" fits this film to a T. Every other crazed-killer-goes-on-a-rampage movie ever made pales next to it. This is one of the best performance of Cagney's career (although, astoundingly enough, he didn't think much of the picture or his wor...

I'm here for ya, Elvis. I just wish that "King Creole", "Loving You", and "Blue Hawaii" were playing that day.

It was my pleasure, Moira. For me, there are some goodies in the mix, especially Joan Crawford in "Autumn Leaves" (haven't seen it in ages) and "Harriet Craig". Good to see Joan Bennett and Dana Andrews get a day of their own. Been waiting to catch Maureen O'Hara in "The Lon...

Moira, I saw the clip of Mickey kissing the queen's hand, and I loved every second of it. The little guy from Brooklyn plays no favorites when it comes to women.
Auctually she should have kissed his hand. At 86 he was once the king of Hollywood.

Ruby Keeler was a delight. The Irish cutie had charm and charisma was the key. I just loved her voice. Ruby Keeler was among the first tap dancing stars of motion pictures. She was an Irish Step Dancer. Irish Step Dancing is where all tap dancing originated. Both the shoes and the style were differe...
